Lana finally takes a turn on her career. Even tho this album has a LOT of weird takes, it's one of her most influential albums, which I can totally see why people would have as a favorite. Love how she creates a space to the album, and her vocals are on point every time.

This album is great if you're looking for a soft rock and psychedelic pop. Although this album is considered one of the "fan favorites", i think this album lacked in production and quality. Lana Del Rey explores themes of tragic love in her 3rd studio album, Ultraviolence. Fulled to the brim with psychedelic-rock songs, Ultraviolence, since the releases of her albums Born To Die and Paradise, may be her greatest one yet.

Perfection. I would rate this album a 9.5/10. I love it so much and it's so cool overall. The dark theme reminds me of Reputation (rep stan here). It's so aggressively honest and in the face, the album is like an actual experience.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is my favourite all time album and I just can't find the right words to express how much I love it because it'll never be enough. To put it in some way: Ultraviolence takes you to places only Lana can. And maybe it shouldn't, but it's also a safe space when I feel down, because Lana transmits so well her emotions along that magnetic voice that I end up diving and feeling so deep into the record. The sound and production of every song amazes me, it's just delightful, and the lyrics, my God. She's able to talk of such sensitive topics in a very very vulnerable way, you can understand her position and contrary of what many critics (music critics suck) said, she portraits perfectly being a victim in an abusive relationship, how you feel and why you can't escape. There's a lot a really bad **** but the the highs are so high that keeps you obsessed with that toxic dynamic.

She's just a genius, and everything she makes is a masterpiece and somehow this is the cuspid of all her works.

I remember listening to this soon after it's release and just being astounded nor only by it's difference from Born to die but how exceptional it was. The foaws that made born to die quirky are gone. Instead this mature contemplation on the agony of love and addiction is an achievement with no technical flaw ?the flaw being it's length. The first half is the higlight with the long heady opener "cruel world" , the weeping depression of "shades of blue",the l.a cool of "west coast "&"Brooklyn baby ". The album has a refined atmosphere of trip pop and blue eyed torch songs as if you combined amy winehouse tone with julie Londons archaic torch songs. Admittedly the album doesn't end well with florida kilos being a clumsy conclusion and **** my way up to the top ","money power glory"&"black beauty " are unnecessary songs that could've been easily removed and made deluxe additions. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Why Lana hits it out of the park on Ultraviolence, the answer is pretty simple: she took a concept and transformed it into a beautiful and precise piece of art. Featuring a killer intro and a stellar tracklist, Ultraviolence is a perfect blend of rock, alternative, indie, and atmospheric pop. It reminds us of the cassette you could see any gothic or sad kids depicted in those lame stereotypical high school flicks listening to all day long. The only thing we could take away from one of Lana's best works is a rather lazy finale from such an outstanding album. Expand

High quality album. Each listened minute makes you feel like Lana Del Rey herself. The instrumental is gorgeous, as always. Chic tracks are relevant to this day. It's a shame for people who complain about great lyrics.
The multi-layered voice overlaid by Lana gorgeously emphasizes the unreality of the album, and makes Lana a highlight.

The symphony, the lyrics , the bridges .. it’s too much to handle, too powerful. “Sad Girl” and “Pretty When You Cry” are cute songs with an emotional lyrics not very helpful when you’re already depressed.
“Money Power Glory” is the official anthem for being a bad **** It gives so much power that you feel at the top of the world. **** My Way Up To The Top” gives the same vibes of money power glory but in a slowly way, more chill more sad.
“Old Money” is a very dangerous song. It can cause so much depression… the sad vibe of the lyrics and the music is dangerously explosive. “The Other Woman” despite being a cover is such a good song. Even better than the original song, Lana’s voice fits perfectly this song. “Black Beauty” feels like a fever dream. Her voice is angelic and every verse is just .. magical. “Guns & Roses” is the most hated song on the album (because it’s repetitive) but it’s kinda catchy and it’s not boring as everyone says. “Florida Kilos” is one of her best song and perfect for the ned of an album. It’s eventful and makes you want to drive with the wind in your hair on an American street.

The answer is a resounding yes. "Cruel World" is an understated epic and opens the record with a big dramatic sound. It sounds amazing without saying too much and is probably as good as anything that follows on the album. The title track follows and is another track that is sounds stripped back yet is highly produced. It has a hazy, chilled vibe yet there is darkness looming in the sound which mirrors the lyrical content, ("he hit me and it felt like a kiss"). This is a description that could be applied to the record as a whole. "Shades of Cool" is based on a slowed down James Bond theme and you could easily imagine this track being a Bond song. "Brooklyn Baby" keeps with the aesthetics of the album, big and cinematic. **** My Way to the Top" is the standout of the 2nd half of the album. This is an album about style and texture rather than necessarily about great songwriting, although there is some of that there too. I did feel that the songs lack variation as it goes on. It is a record made for great speakers or headphones to fully appreciate the work done on this in the studio. The whole album sounds huge, lovely guitar tones mixed perfectly with unintrusive slow building bass lines and drums. Vocally Del Rey is on amazing form alternating between her smoky whispers and full blooded calls to arms. Lacks a truly memorable single but a solid follow up to her highly enjoyable "Born to Die". ¿Quién ha dicho que lo triste no puede ser lo más hermoso del mundo? Un álbum sombrío, que habla de desamor, amorios violentos, etc, pero que conlleva una gran lírica y melodia implícita...

    Es algo sublime

One of the crudest and most honest albums in Lana del Rey's career, she explores sounds like pop rock, psychedelic rock, jazz and makes them harmonious in her own way.
Both at its highest and lowest points you can see a different artist who is not interested in pretending to be more.

I love this album, this defines Lana del Rey's style so much, the concept is good, in short, the truth is fascinating the way she describes it, I love the concept, the sound and I declare myself a fan of hers for me deserves the 100.

This album is a masterpiece. Del Rey is eclectic when we are talking about critics. “Ultraviolence” is about feeling sexy, emotions, life, toxic relationships and more. The esthetic matchs with the lyrics. It’s possible to see in “west coast” and “shades of cool”.

As if Lana Del Rey couldn't get darker - but I mean that as a compliment. As if Lana Del Rey couldn't get darker - but I mean that as a compliment. While "Born to Die" was full of ironic and even sarcastic lyrics about the relationships and the American dream, "Ultraviolence" ups the ante by being more provocative, more scathing, and more sinister in both lyrics and composition. Drugs, sex, and abuse all make appearances on this moody album; it's certainly not for the faint of heart. But even if the more optimistic listeners do give this album a chance, "Ultraviolence" hides a lot of strength behind its sadness. The dirty, grunge rock sound perfectly matches the lyrical content, and Del Rey's voice once again proves that not just any female singer can perform these songs. Deep roaring guitars and mellow pianos haunt most of the tracks, with the drums of "Born to Die" effectively used in the background.

  1. A shake up in the lyric department would be nice to see next time around, but on this outing Lana Del Rey is able to sell it with striking vocal performances and breathtaking compositions.

While her David Lynch qualities remain, there's also something of the masochistic Lars Von Trier heroine in the resigned drowse of these songs. [Sep 2014, p.92]

Underwhelming ending aside, it’s fair to say that Del Rey (and her collaborators) have more than risen to the challenge of keeping her a part of the pop culture conversation, for all the right reasons.
