Another disappointing Muse album. From the latest you can pick up one or two songs but the rest are dubious. They may lack ideas or just conformism but there are songs that sound very similar to other Muse songs and the influences are more than just that. It's those great details that make me tune out of the album. They don't seem to have much left in the tank for this band that has marked me so much. Expand

L'album est vraiment décevant. Muse avait annoncé un album métal, on se retrouve avec de la pop....

I appreciate the effort. I guess this is certainly better than a "greatest hits" compilation album. Still, as others have mentioned the album is missing soul. It's ironic that a group that sings so much about the struggles of humanity manages to create music that feels so lacking of it. The production quality is great, but the songs feel very formulaic and overly polished. The lyrics feel terribly simplistic and childish. I think those characteristics tend to be better applied to concept albums where the simplicity of each song can lend itself to a larger idea rather than a mash-up album like this.

I never was a fan of every style of Muse, and that comes through here as well. I ended up liking six out of ten tracks, but there are really only two standouts for me: Won't Stand Down and Kill or Be Killed. Overall, this just makes me want to listen to old Muse more-so than the album itself.

The best muse album out of their past 3 releases but the band is stretching further and further away from their glory days with no turning back.
This album has one memorable song (Kill or Be Killed) but the rest are immemorable which you think it would be memorable as the album spans across multiple genres which you think would make the tracks stand out to each other.
    But No, each track

As much as we are "F*cking f*cked" according to Muse, they still choose to charge their fans £90+ per ticket to see them live, the same day we have an 80% energy bill rise, which is hilariously hypocritical considering many songs on this new album are a commentary on the UK government, COVID, lock-downs and revolting against it.

its nowhere near the calibre of their past albums,

its nowhere near the calibre of their past albums, although Kill or Be Killed is one of their best songs, for a long time!

An all over-the-place album that has only one memorable song ("Kill or Be Killed"). Yeah, some songs are fun, especially the last ones, but Muse feels like a joke now.

Now that's a strange album. I have very mixed feelings about it. Production is excellent! The songs that has been released as singles are okay: interesting musical direction with respect to all previous muse's works. The lyrics are... Euphoria and Liberation are easily best tracks on the album. They are cool, the are muse'ish, and somehow even new. Ghosts is a very beautiful song, which strangely reminds me of disney cartoons, but this is my problem, it is not bad at all. And we get it, very respectable release from my favourite guys!
    However this is not all.
And i must ask... What is happening with names of the songs and lyrics? "You make me feel like it's halloween", "we are f[a]king f[a]ked"... Wait i get it, now we are 13! Or what? I don't understand, I am sorry, it is extremely painful. And is it me or it's Franz Ferdinand's "Tge Lobster Quadrille" inspiration in the chorus? These songs feel so much out of place, and that place is earth, I am sorry again. And Verona, it just exists, it might be beautiful, yeah, but the lyrics are so... Vulgar, I must say...
I wish Muse good luck and hope to see you live once again, I still love you, but I don't understand what is happening and why i feel so cringe about a half of this album. Peace.

Their best album since The 2nd Law,and well, its a gigantic mess, but not necessarily just in a bad way. Only 10 songs, and rightfully nothing feels like it was put here as filler here. One of the things that saves this album is that all this songs are better than the average Muse song.
This album feel more like a bunch of individual songs that muse made strapped onto each other, but at least the songs are great, at best, and average at worst.

    Favorite track- Liberation
Least favorite tracks- Will Of The People, We Are **** ****

It certainly thrills on a moment-to-moment basis, and Muse's decision to self-produce lends a much-welcome harder, grittier edge to many tracks, but continued issues with vague lyrical griping against authority and the record's grab-bag musical style leaves much of "Will of the People" feeling markedly derivative of and uninspired compared to the band's best work.

Muse are so bursting with energy and ideas, even their joke songs are stadium-sized barnstormers. [Oct 2022, p.33]

All of these moments lurch through time without any thought of build or denouement—no tension, no release, no narrative. Muse parade their influences while giving us all comical winks.

It’s all consistently inventive rather than dull, but also endearingly daft rather than chilling. Still, that makes for Muse’s most enjoyable album since the 00s.
