Apr 13, 2012this is the worst thing besides tear garden by them the band isnt even all together anymore the band members from back then put the soul of the smashing pumpkins into the smashing pumpkins this album is good however about 60% of the songs are either good or listenable this album is also heavier then most of there stuff its a good album but its lacking feeling that the old albums were about

Nov 11, 2010Some songs are iffy but with the strength of the two powerful singles "Tarantula" and "That's The Way" followed by some great rock songs like "7 shades" and "Doomsday Clock", this album doesn't disappoint!
-
Nov 6, 2010Zeitgeist is missing the emotion and originality of previous albums from the Smashing Pumpkins. Nothing feels new, its like a pre-packaged version of the band. And despite the title its the furtherest from the 'zeitgeist'/current attitudes that Billy Corgan has ever been. That being said, Smashing Pumpkins are a brilliant band usually and a Billy Corgan a defining songwriter of our generation

AmâmdioJ.Aug 29, 2008This is a great album, I love smashing pumpkins and this has really great songs. Its god to see that Billy doesn't lost is talent. I recommend it.

-
KaitarnD.Aug 24, 2008Chicago's totally changed when Billy and his companions recorded the triad Gish-Siamese-Mellon Collie. I'm one of the class A fan. But i cannot give this album more than a chance. No more charming lyrics, no surprising change of a chord, nothing but a rock LP without ideas. Solo album was at least admirable for courage. This is crap.

AntonioL.Apr 28, 2008This album was amazing. It rocked as hard as anything they had ever done and was a great comeback. I love it!

SlavaP.Jan 31, 2008F*ck the "good old days"... Billy and Jimmy are back - angry and vigorous... Come on... Lets go...!!!
-
-
PedroMJan 26, 2008An equal of good and unappealing stuff. It will NEVER be another Siamise and Mellon Collie but it has some good stuff. Just another case of mid-age rockers trying to find their "steam" after 7 long years of zip. A 50/50 album: Not their worst but not their best.
-
-
RobertC.Dec 15, 2007A lot has changed since Billy, James, D'arcy, and Jimmy went their separate ways. But it is great to hear at least two of them back together in the present, playing live shows to bring back the good music of the 90's and early 2000's, but also bringing us something new and fresh to the present. This album was incredible and fresh for the Pumpkins. I can't wait for their next.
-
-
MaxM.Oct 29, 2007I'm a very poor fan of heavy metal, but this is actually a very good album. I really enjoyed the guitar. It's a bit of a change from Smashing Pumpkins previous work.

sdjonesOct 13, 2007I guess critics are tired of grunge, post-grunge and probably Billy Corgan. I have to admit I was pretty tired of his raspy croak myself. However, Zietgiest rocks and it rocks hard. I was pleasantly impressed by how solid this is!
-
-
BrianP.Oct 11, 2007Zeitgeist has a hypnotic spinning to it that drives me to keep listening for things I might of not caught the first time. It's hard work and hard sound should be considered for bringing Alternative Music back into the late 2000's. It's still the Pumpkins because they are influencing and rule breaking the current lull of cheep money making pop sound today. . .

-
ArinAug 24, 2007Honestly, this album would be a terrific freshman release. Feels deflated and humdrum, compared to the songwriting brilliance and dynamic brilliance of Dream and even Melloncollie... Very much feels like SP, but without the 'fist in the air' 'careening off the road' adolescence that made the older stuff so much better. It's just ok.

-
MattCAug 22, 2007Very, very good album(CD). A smashing Rock rerturn as most of the songs on the CD are Rock driven. I imagine that future efforts will incorporate more of their slower material. If you want some good guitar work and blasting drums, this is a good one for you!
-
-
qwertyuiopmAug 17, 2007i would have liked it better if they didnt mix it like a high school musical cd. i appreciate every part of a song and it would be nice i i could hear it all as well. on another note, the lyrics are good, and most of the songs are well structured.
-
-
honestoAug 16, 2007A very welcome comeback. Great guitar riffs. Grabs you by the balls from the opening of Doomsday Clock and just doesn't let up.

DerekDAug 13, 2007I love a lot of tracks on this album, it stays pretty true to the classic smashing pumpkins and with only a couple of bad tracks you can't really complain with this album.

YanMJul 31, 2007I think that the media are going nut with their review. they got something against corgan its clear. This album is the best Pumpkins material I have heard since Siamease Dream.
-
-
MattDJul 27, 2007If you listen to Zeitgeist as a collection of songs, and ignore the lineup changes, expectations, etc that seem to be at the forefront of discussion regarding the album, it's a good cd. There are a few songs that are grating and pretentious but overall the music is rich, aggressive, and unique.
-

StickiePJul 23, 2007A total disappointment. It lacks the emotion and depth of the earlier SP albums and sounds tired and dated.

christianwJul 19, 2007This album is better than Machina and Adore but not as good as Gish, SD and MCATIS. The former two had that electro-clatter that stripped the music of soul and that wonderful organis cound they had. Fortunately the organic sound is back. CAN YOU GET YOUR HEAD AROUND THAT, WAYNE B???
-
-
SSEJul 19, 2007Because Billy doesn't have james and d'arcy everyones gonna moan that its not the pumpkins which i don't understand cause billy pretty much did everything! This is a solid album and I think it's one of the best albums of the year along with Year Zero and its a hell of a lot better then the "music" thats doing the MTV circuit these days....

-
-
johnmJul 17, 2007Zeitgeist certainly offers a different kind of sound from older Pumpkins music. Nevertheless, Corgan and Chanberlain are quite successful in this new style of music. The more I hear the songs on this album, the more I like it. It's no Melancholy, but the album still rocks.
-

-
robg.Jul 16, 2007As a fan since 1994, i'm thoroughly happy. The band is growing and evolving unlike the majority of their peers. Still able to create albums unique from the others that are prevalent and relevant
-
-
ILJul 16, 2007The Pumpkins are right back where they started with Gish, discovering (or rediscovering, as the case is with Zeitgeist) what sound they are trying to create etc. If this turns out to be true, the next Pumpkin album will be great. But maybe I'm just too optimistic ;-)
-
-
EricR.Jul 16, 2007Better than any album I've hear in a long time. Compared to their previous recordings I would say not as good as Gish, SD, or Mellon Collie, but better than Adore or Machina.
-
-
AndyCJul 16, 2007Impossible to judge a pumpkins album without listening to it for about 5 years. They all come good in the end. Having said that I've listened through about 3 times and it's still brill.

-
JustinD.Jul 14, 2007I did not expect to love this album, but as a someone who came up with 90s rock, it provides nostalgia and relevancy if that is possible. It's obvious that if the Pumpkins had made this album as a follow up to Melancollie, there wouldn't be any doubt to the group's greatness, but it came ten years too late for the "experts."

spfissionJul 13, 2007Billy once again proves that he does not need to live off his past hits. He continues to evolve as an artist which is very rare in this day. Zeitgeist will prove to be a classic. Solid Album.
-
-
DGJul 13, 2007Good God. Seriously, if this is the best they can come up with, then they shouldn't bother. Not worthy of the Pumpkin name, and given some of the crap they put out at the end (MACHINA 1, I'm looking at you) that's saying something.

ArthurJul 12, 2007Don't believe the critics! Zeitgeist is a great album. Don't get me wrong, I'm not just some biased Billy Corgan/Pumpkins fan; I hated his solo album and thought Zwan was a real disappointment.

Awards & Rankings
-
Overall, Corgan's captivating effort to mine both the spirit of these turbulent times and the soul of his defining band is a smashing success.
-
Zeitgeistās orgy of avalanche rhythms, cascading riffs and sky-licking guitar is as grandiose as ever (the solo on "Tarantula" sounds like a nuke hitting a Guitar Center), but the bombast is softened as Corgan reaches out for shame-sharing community.
-
It's best treated as a curio in the Smashing Pumpkins' legacy; and for those who grew up on 'Today', '1979' and 'Ava Adore', you're better left with your memories.
