    In places, when compared to their earlier works, it sometimes feels like songs don’t get the space to grow and unfold. Other than that, this is a sublime and beguiling record, and a milestone in the evolution of a unique creative voice.

    It may not be the perfect and victorious effort that it could’ve been, but A Lantern and a Bell is beautiful in all the right places and deserves a deep and purposeful listen. As a songwriter and catalyst for expressive musical memories, Svanängen is a modest master, triggering cerebral emotions that cut deep.

    Overall though, this very welcome comeback from Loney Dear does feel a little too stripped back and one-paced at times, so while it’s certainly an interesting development in style, you are left wishing for a little bit more of the zip and zest of Svanängen’s earlier efforts.
