Simone Felice wears his heart on his sleeve on All The Bright Coins, and while that's an easy way for an artist to sound foolish, in this case he's created something brave and exciting in its embrace of the human spirit, and it's often strikingly beautiful.

It may take repeated listenings over a period of time—plus no small honestly and self-awareness in a listener–to plumb the depths of introspection this artist (and his main collaborator) is aiming for here. And ultimately, while All the Bright Coins may represent a Rorschach test for those hearing it, the bravery required in that context is no greater than that of its author(s), both of whom deserve commendation for their own patience and perseverance in creating this often dramatic piece of work.

The passion of a precarious life lived by a gospel of poetry and rock’n’roll is, though, undimmed, in music of acoustic intimacy, helped by Kieran Hebden’s spectral guitars and the Webb Sisters’ choral harmonies. [Feb 2022, p.29]

A succession of haunting story songs. ... Closing track After The Rain, meanwhile, is a hymnal balm. Less happily, he's made a part return to his original calling as a spoken word poet. [Feb 2022, p.89]

Anything by one of the brothers is brilliant. This is Simone's 4th solo album and it is very poetic and vivid in its imagery. Its 11 songsAnything by one of the brothers is brilliant. This is Simone's 4th solo album and it is very poetic and vivid in its imagery. Its 11 songs long with 4 of them being spoken word poems of his with subtle backing instrumentation. That may turn a few away because they aren't traditional songs but if you pay attention to the words of those poems they are beautiful. 90s is one about remembering a simpler time in his life. The references in that song make anyone who lived that era look back with fondness. I think the best two songs are Moonlight Promises and Year Around the Sun. There isn't one song I would skip. All of his solo albums are worth listening to if you prefer literary geniuses with the pen. Sad that E Diddy Shrimp doesn't comprehend good music and still thinks Metallica rules. Expand
