There’s a directness, freshness and intimacy to these performances that puts the late, great Beatle George right in your ear, untarnished by time. Not all things must pass, it seems.

All Things Must Pass is a landmark set; one that sounded timeless 50 years ago and will have the same effect 50 years from now. Even, perhaps especially, those who have lived with it for decades will enjoy this appropriately classy, beautifully crafted, refreshed/remixed, and likely definitive version.

Needless to say, this gorgeous cacophony sounds more amazing than ever in this revamped sonic edition. ... There are 47 demos and outtakes, most of them previously unreleased — none is a Holy Grail, but several are fascinating. Most interesting are the demos. ... Some may argue, not without reason, that McCartney’s “Band on the Run” or Lennon’s “Plastic Ono Band” or “Imagine” is actually the best Beatles solo album, but this lovingly rendered 50th anniversary edition makes the case for “All Things Must Pass” in vivid detail.

What this all amounts to is that All Things Must Pass, the expanded 50th anniversary reissue, is nothing less than essential. It takes one of the greatest works in popular music history (forgive me if you think this is hyperbole but let’s at least admit that if so, it’s only slight), and expounds upon its genius by exposing its creation.

The original All Things has aged brilliantly (the fresh remix doesn’t hurt). ... The two CDs of early demos (day one made with Voormann and Starr, day two acoustic versions) could easily stand on their own; these are spare, campfire-ish takes on which Spector would soon add Wall of Sound bricks.

The original triple set contained an Apple Jam disc, featuring the notorious It’s Johnny’s Birthday sung to the tune of Cliff Richard’s Congratulations. Whether you need this is up for debate, but the jamming with pals such as Derek And The Dominos and Badfinger feels cleansing, exciting. Rolling Stone called All Things “the War And Peace of rock and roll”. That might be going a little far, but there’s no denying its pull and charm 50 years down the line.

As is often the case, we hear why certain iterations remained on the cutting room floor, but there are plenty of hidden gems in this vault-clearing effort. ... The fifth disc is composed of session outtakes and jams, and arguably is the most eclectic batch of obscurios (even if George gets a bit shouty on a couple of tracks). The jamming is more coherent than much of what was originally assembled on the third vinyl disc of “Apple Jam.”

George Harrison ideas were often overshadowed or ignored by the Beatles unsaid leads,Paul McCartney and John Lennon, with his song's being often left off or limited in contribution. But following the hedonistic sprawl of the white album in which each member got to do their own thing followed Abbey Road. Abbey Road saw his growing involvement lead to the album's most remarkable moments. Such as the forever covered "here comes the sun" & "something ",moments where he outshone Paul and John, precursors of the music he was capable of. Following the fab fours dissolution he now had an unprecedented freedom to do what he wants how he wants, to please himself only. This meant bigger choruses, longer song's, more guitars. "All things must pass " is his magnum opus,a demand record in size but not accessibility. Stuffed with anthemic choruses, heartfelt lyrics and stellar production. The records theme of srlf discovery and healing isn't just reiterated by the album title but by the religious pleas on "oh my lord " or "let it down" unburdening. Undoubtedly the best solo Beatles record
