AB/AS is a solid, if not safe, release. Where Save Rock and Roll was very much a transitional album, with FOB trying to find their feet after their hiatus, AB/AS is planted a bit more solidly in the new sound of the band. Every track is decent, but very little (other than maybe the first three tracks) jumps out and grabs you. This is a good album to listen to a few times, but I can't see it staying at the top of my playlist for much longer than a month or so. It's been called a risky album, but maybe a few more risks outside of this defined bubble would have benefited the record. Also, it's too short. Patrick Stump still clearly has the vocal talent, though. Expand

All the songs are loaded with lots of creative and beautiful melody , the same can be said of the verses, who are written with a lot of will to conquer the listener and be marked in our minds as a good way to describe the eternity of good

The album is awful. Fall Out Boy has been losing quality throught the years and this time was not diferente. Irrestible and Fourth of July are just okay. The rest of it is lame! Fillers songs, with bad production and lyrics.

I find it kind of sad that FOB has to make references to other acts to evoke the slightest enjoyment of the album (The Kids Aren't Alright- The Offspring, Uma Thurman- Pulp Fiction, Jet Pack Blues- The Jetsons, Novocaine- Green Day, Favorite Record- A FOB that's worth a damn). I Wish they's do the whole original sound reboot thing. FOB (when they were good) is one of my favorite bands, but because of things like this I can't wear one of their shirts or anything like that. I wanted to give this a 10 and would have if it was similar to Save Rock and Roll, mostly high energy, hard edged rock and roll. After listening to all of the songs, many of which are pop, I had to give it an 8. Im still a huge fan of the group though.

Well, I'm happy to say that Fall Out Boy are still... well, Fall Out Boy. It's a good album, it has great songs (Fourth Of July, Novocaine, Immortals, Uma Thurman, The Kids Aren't Alright), but a few... not really bad, just weak compared to the others (Jet Pack Blues, Twin Skeletons, Favorite Record, American Beauty/American Psycho). Overall, an ok effort.

The supposed big comeback album sees Patrick Stump and co. playing it dreadfully straight with a synth pop sound that will probably suit Maroon 5 fans.

This is not what we expected when FOB said they were shaking up their sound. This is too much 'pop' for them. The record itself isn't bad, not bad at all. But the fact that it is not even close to the goodness of "Save Rock and Roll" and is delivered by a ROCK band like FOB is really unfortunate. FOB did not save rock and roll after all..
PS: That Uma Thurman song is really irritating.

Fall Out Boy are really back with a bang with their new album. Their music has been changing, with the current album having more of a 'pop' feel than rock. That, however, does not change the fact that this album is simply amazing. Starting with the catchy Irresistible and ending with the heart-filling Twin's Skeleton, almost each and every song is brilliant in its own right.

American Beauty / American Psycho is so good and I really like it and it's pretty clear that they are getting more pop than rock. The lyrics are still awesome as their last albums. It's generic and solid, and if you prefer the old FOB, you won't like this record. I gave a 7 just because the songs seem equal, it's just a different album that we were expecting, but it is nice.

To their credit, Fall Out Boy have always tried to adapt to a constantly changing music industry without ever fully leaving their pop punk/rock roots behind, and have largely pulled it off since their inception. However, this is probably the first record from them that feels more pop than rock - more generic than raw, but it must be said, most of these songs here are as catchy as hell! None more so than “Uma Thurman”, which uses a sample form the show “The Munsters”. With is funky bassline, groovy guitar work and raw, impassioned vocals, it is not only one of the best songs released this year, but is possibly one of the best the group have ever written (and definitely their best since their comeback). The group's pop appeal is as strong as ever, and the other singles (“Centuries” and “Immortals” especially) demonstrate that very well, both of which feature impressive vocal performances form lead singer Patrick Stump and good variation and experimentation with instruments. While the album does have some very good moments, it's more... generic sounding material in the album's second half loses replay value pretty quickly and over the long haul, acts as just filler, but at thirty-nine minutes, the record still feels fairly concise, tight, and not too drawn out. The group can, and have showed that this any new direction they've went in has paid dividends in the past, but this record might be the first signs that Fall Out Boy may be on the verge of a creative decline. Here's hoping it isn't...

Album Highlights - “Centuries”, “Uma Thurman” and “Immortals”.

I love the ominous almost eerie feel of Twin Skeletons, the hilarious and fun samples in both Centuries and Uma Thurman, both with great production to back themselves up (massive percussion and surfer rock respectively), I really love the horns and tightly written versus of Irresistible, and I absolutely ADORE the dark, speaker shattering crunch of Novocaine, as well as the somber atmosphere of Jet Pack Blues. Patrick sounds amazing as always, Wentz's writing is a decent step ahead of Save Rock and Roll, and Joe's guitar work (as well as Pete's and Patrick's) are definitely up to par. Huge props to Andy's drum work as well, some of the songs wouldn't be nearly as good if he was absent

American Beauty/American Psycho is the sixth studio album from Fall Out Boy, and it is a pretty darn good one. The band ventures even more into the pop territory than Save Rock And Roll, and this method proves to work well, showing that a rock band can make a good pop album. Just like their previous, Beauty/Psycho is 11 songs long, yet I would add 6 of them to my master playlist, which is impressive (more than 50%). Over time, it has been pretty fun to see the band evolve and make music across many forms of rock and now pop. The album starts out with Irresistible, which had fantastic music. I loved the toe-tapping intro, as well as the line comparing the subject to the cities mentioned. Perhaps the most eye-opening detail was the panning of the high hat and how it changed. I appreciated how even though more elements of pop were present than before (like the amazing brass parts), Patrick Stump displays the same clever lyrics which captures the true Fall Out Boy spirit. I wish I could give all my thoughts on every song, but the character limit won't let me. In general, this album far exceeded my expectations. I was expecting something completely poppy, but Beauty/Psycho had enough Fall Out Boy in its veins to satisfy me. It has been a great journey listening to this band, and I can’t believe there is only one left that I haven’t listened to yet. If it is anything like the previous two, I’m sure I will find it another great piece of music. With American Beauty/American Psycho, Fall Out Boy proves their versatility, an impressive quality that not very many bands have. Highlights: Irresistible, Centuries, The Kids Aren’t Alright, Uma Thurman, Jet Pack Blues, Fourth of July, and Immortals.
