It’s warm, rewarding and a very, very comfortable listen. And therefore definitely not pysch.

Whether autobiographical or artistic, As If Apart is a powerful, exquisitely realized journey, the sort of bummer that sounds strongest in that alien hour between when you’re supposed to fall asleep and when you should be jerking awake.

As If Apart maintains a laid-back, weekend-afternoon feel, but it never seems too lazy, as Cohen is clearly adept at crafting pleasant yet sophisticated songs.
  4. May 6, 2016
    70
While not discernably stronger or weaker than the record that preceded it, As If Apart burrows deeper into its maker's sonic pet obsessions. This is a work of accessible insularity, outsider pop from a tinkering songsmith who understands all the inner workings of the genre.
  5. Uncut

Simultaneously dry, jaunty and eerie, As If Apart takes time to get lost in, but it's worth the effort. [Jul 2016, p.71]
  6. May 6, 2016

As If Apart will still add a few gems to your chilled out summer evening playlist, but it certainly leaves a little to be desired in regards to the evolution Cohen was clearly striving toward.
  7. May 6, 2016

As If Apart follows the template of his similarly bucolic 2012 solo debut ‘Overgrown Path’, shrouding his loosely constructed songs in a shimmering lo-fi shroud that makes everything sound as if it was recorded on his front porch, which it almost certainly wasn’t.
