Bad Magic is proof that Motorhead remain the greatest rock'n'roll band on God's scorched Earth. [29 Aug 2015, p.50]

While drummer Mikkey Dee shines on an unexpected cover of the Rolling Stones’ “Sympathy for the Devil.” That efficient if unspectacular borrowing aside, this potent record ranks among the year’s best.

For most of its duration, Bad Magic is indecently thrilling and imbued with a sense of vitality and danger that most bands of this--or, indeed, any--vintage can only dream about.

Bad Magic is gloriously genre-defying. [Sep 2015, p.78]

Bad Magic feels ancestral; you can feel it in your blood and in your bones. Even for those new to Motörhead, the album will have the power to recharge your love for all things rock ‘n’ roll.

If Lemmy croaks or wheezes more often on Bad Magic than he has before, it suits his tales of foul-minded bastards and their despicable deeds, and it's a fine fit with the bloody-minded attitude that has always been Motörhead's stock in trade.

All in all, there’s not much here that’s likely to blow your mind; if you’re already a Motörhead fan then you know exactly what you’re getting yourself in for, and even the most die-hard may find themselves wanting to skip a track or two, but there’s always something impressive about a band so dedicated and single-minded about fulfilling the simple goal of being the best rock band on the planet.

Occasionally, as on Fire Storm Hotel, with its shades of an 80s hair metal anthem, he sounds at once energised and enfeebled and you find yourself willing him to reach the velocity of yore. But most of the time, you could play these tracks to an alien and they would struggle to tell them apart from Motörhead’s 90s, or even 70s, work.

Lyrically, beating the odds and ultra-violence remain fecund topics for Lemmy. [Sep 2015, p.86]

The album isn’t radically different from the five other records Motörhead have made with Webb since Inferno, in 2004.

However, Bad Magic was the strongest album the band had put out in a while - it's that little bit more memorable, self-reflective, grittier, nastier, which made the album a fitting end to the band's career, though none of us really knew that at the time. We miss you, Lemmy. Full Review »

Nicht schlecht. R.I.P. Lemmy.
So traurig: 10/10
