An album full of inspired electronic melody and pastoral reflection culminating in the heartsore title track. [Oct 2016, p.100]

One of the best things about the Album Leaf is the mental imagery that comes naturally with the music, and Between Waves provides a fresh canvas.

This incarnation of The Album Leaf asserts the resilience that has always held up their sentimental exterior.

Between Waves might be the least Relapse of all Relapse titles, but that's what genuine eclecticism looks like. [No. 135, p.53]

The warmth and comfort is occasionally jarred by a sense of foreboding.

It's not uncommon for these songs to bloom into something celebratory during their second half, such as on the rippling, shimmering "Wandering Still." Between Waves is easily the strongest, most inspired Album Leaf release in at least a decade.

Think of the tiny overhead fan gently blowing air that keeps you halfway between sleep and consciousness. Between Waves delivers that same kind of soothing yet neutral sensation. Luckily, it also delivers some left turns here and there that stand out simply by virtue of being different.

Between Waves is an album created by a man who knows what he’s doing; and that’s the problem. He could create satisfactory albums till the end of days, but he’ll need to rip up the rulebook if he’s to grab people’s attention in this fickle age.
