Some stretches of the album may be a little too sleepy and subdued, with songs bleeding together in a hypnotic haze. Nonetheless, refreshingly void of aggression or any deliberate tension, Cloud Nine comforts with its positivity and charm.

His debut album, Cloud Nine, is naturally very same-y--deep house wasting away in Margaritaville--but unfailingly gorgeous.

Cloud Nine could certainly do with a few more musical ideas, but this shouldn’t trouble Kygo unduly--after all, the same problem never held back David Guetta and Calvin Harris.

The narrow emotional and musical range suggests Kygo doesn't have unexplored depths, but he doesn't need them. [#361, p.111]

He’s still figuring out the transition out of his remix artist phase, but enough works on his debut to show that there’s hope for the future.

The lyrics are as earnest and emotionally inarticulate as a 19-year-old on Tinder. Well, this is pop, where cliche can be transcendent, but these joyless songs are chemically castrated of any passion or sexuality.

It serves it purpose and exceeds in terms of the goal of his deep house/ tropical house mix. With songs like Oasis that could become potential hits, as well as Happy Birthday, shows Kygo's ability to understand what his audience wants, and the type of music it is looking for when it hears the name Kygo. This album will not wow you in terms of lyrics or critical acclaim, but it is perfect for the deep house/tropical house fan or someone that wants to hear some relaxing music. Expand

It sometimes makes me feels bored and sleepy. This is a very different kind of EDM but not much of the good kind, it is sometimes lame and doesn't include much beats for a EDM album, not that much quality for a well known EDM star.
