  • Summary: This is the debut disc for the duo of Beachwood Sparks/Tyde member Brent Rademaker and vocalist Michelle Loiselle, featuring contributions from Mia Doi Todd and members of The Warlocks, Rooney and The Brian Jonestown Massacre.

  1. Rather than break new ground, Rademaker, Losielle, and friends have chosen to have some fun making a record that would have sounded fantastic 20 years ago. While maybe not quite fantastic today, somehow it manages to sound fresh enough in 2004 that you’ll be glad you gave it a chance.
  2. They are a lot more inspired-sounding than many of their more contemporary-sounding colleagues.

At times it sounds like pastiche but when they're themselves... the 'Couture...' club are amazing. [6 Nov 2004, p.59]
  4. Unsurprisingly, Rademaker makes his mark when he forsakes goth-rock and embraces his jangle-pop roots.
  5. While some of the tracks on the album may get bogged down in their own slumped posture, tracks like "The Extremists," "A Go-See," and "Soft Light" are instantly palatable and give a take on the '80s which says, blame the decade, not the music.
  6. Q Magazine

Stylish nightlife pop. [Dec 2004, p.148]
  7. It's yet another example of talented people looking backward for inspiration and getting stuck there.
