Cradle to the Grave
They say time is of the essence They say time will always tell I wasted time in constant panic As the Rome around me fell And each moment that is... See the rest of the song lyrics

In other words: quintessential Squeeze. [Dec 2015, p.114]

With its best songs vividly referencing the 70s South London landscape of Difford and Tilbrook’s youth, FTCTTG is frequently nostalgic, yet it’s largely upbeat and mostly eminently radio-friendly.

Cradle To The Grave relies on the sharp melodic construction of Tilbrook and Difford's diffident wit, a combination the crackles throughout this lean 44 minute record.

Warm, melodic and acutely observed, Cradle To The Grave is a convincing return from two of our very finest songwriters.

These 12 tracks confirm Chris Difford and Glenn Tilbrook's melodic talents, but leaden exposition lyrics... make the grisly bits last a lifetime. [Oct 2015, p.83]

Their big sound has a wide sonic palette, from the spacey keyboards of Honeytrap to the baroque strings and synths of Sunny, but there are some less inspired moments. [Oct 2015, p.91]

Suffice it to say those looking for an album on the order of early Squeeze classics like Argybargy or East Side Story won’t be disappointed. Packed with winsome melodies, joy and jubilation (made all the more expressive by titles like “Nirvana,” “Beautiful Game,” “Sunny” and the all too appropriate “Top of the Form”), Cradle to the Grave is a stunning example of the brilliance Difford and Tilbrook seemingly command at their fingertips.
