The album may not be teeming with experimentation – and somewhat understated in places – but it’s certainly potent enough.

The quality wanes a little in the album’s second half, but there are four or five bangers, all told – ample firepower to win fresh converts while supporting both Harry Styles and Arctic Monkeys on the stadium circuit this summer.

A helter skelter 11 track run-through, ‘Cuts & Bruises’ retains everything that made INHALER’s debt so effective while adding some excellent new elements.

[“Valentine” is] the most endearing entry in an album that has its moments but doesn’t quite leave a mark.

Inhaler avoid difficult second album problems by sounding more like they’re on a confident fourth record.

Inhalers 2nd album stays close to the formula that worked so well on their debut. It's a less fun but slightly more mature record. I preferredInhalers 2nd album stays close to the formula that worked so well on their debut. It's a less fun but slightly more mature record. I preferred the singles off of the debut but I can see "Cuts and Bruises" growing on me for longer. The songwriting here is decent without ever being electriying but the polished production works well to elevate the raw materials. Say what you want about nepobabies but there is no doubt Eli Hewson has been blessed to inherit a fine pair of vocal chords. Maybe not in the same league as his old man but his style reminds me more of Jeff Buckley's more restrained moments. Such an easy voice to listen to. Overall this is a fine follow up to their highly enjoyable debut. Plenty of catchy numbers especially on the first half of the album. "These Are the Days" is a particular favourite of mine while "Dublin in Ecstacy" invokes Thw War on Drugs and The Killers to give another memorable track. Expand
