Time will tell if the Envelopes were merely able to muster up one great album or if this is but the beginning of an artistically progressive career. But either way, Demon is a stellar debut album.
-
Alternative PressHas a curiously timeless sense of eclecticism. [May 2006, p.166]
-
Demons is well worth checking out for those who like a sense of the unexpected in their pop.
-
The music from the Envelopes’ first LP, Demon, is so loose and frivolous it feels like the Swedish group wasn’t even aware that the mics were hot.
-
Envelopes could so easily be a cheap Belle & Sebastian clone or a second-rate Magnetic Fields, but they pull off what nobody remembers to in this line of work anymore: personality.
-
BlenderThe sugar is matched by splashes of vinegar thanks to untuned guitars and off-pitch vocals that toy with self-sabotage. [Jun 2006, p.137]
-
The music is cutesy and fun, but the lyrics are subversive.

TTableWhyTTableWhyJan 12, 2007It is a pop album but the guitars sound spine tinglingly fu**ed up. Stands up to repeated listening. Some great nonsensical lyrics too. I love it.
