Echo The Diamond recaptures what made Margaret Glaspy so exciting. Her sense of drama is thrilling, and its quietest moments find the beauty in her raw, prickly vocals.

    Well-crafted and unfussy. [Sep 2023, p.92]

This moodier, more prickly attack suits Glaspy’s voice, concepts, and vision. She aligns with other New York City performers who push into shadier, more extreme territory with a similar snarl, mirroring the insecurity, brashness, and honesty the area seems to instill in its finest artists.

10 songs that glint like shards of glass yet brim with love, grief, courage, existential doubt and all the stuff that makes us human, to a soundtrack of grungy alt.rock cut with torch-song melodrama and Lenker-ish folk. [Sep 2023, p.27]

The album is good, but it would have been stronger with more thoughtful lyrics. Too many lines feel like they don't belong. On Female Brain, Glaspy sings about "dodging stones and sticks". She compares memories from "A to Zs" on Memories and sings "make like a fox and start listening" on People Who Talk.

A few gems like Act Natural could make a commercial impact. But after a few listens, we're still left wondering what "Echo The Diamond" really means.
