Altogether, Evergreen is a masterfully executed maturation that launches Gunnulfsen forward into fresh, fearless territory.

The record is quietly confident; Gunnulfsen can belt, but she doesn’t need to shout to be heard.

As usual, PVRIS demonstrates the value of existing in the spaces between genres, and that moments of combination and contrast are often the most exciting.

All dials are turned up to eleven for PVRIS’ fourth album. .... Sometimes it means they possess a heaviness not found since the outfit’s rockier days of old, such as in the industrial clatter of ‘HYPE ZOMBIES’, but it may be an acquired taste, and occasional moments feel overcooked, such as on the juddering early single ‘ANIMAL’. Elsewhere, however, are a plethora of cast-iron, genreless bangers, some of which are the catchiest tracks Lynn Gunn has put her name to.

Even if it doesn’t always hit the mark, Evergreen is an album that should see Gunnulfsen continue to climb festival line-ups and charts alike.

The bulk of EVERGREEN does little more than yeeting a distorted riff at you, copy-pasting vocal melodies on top and subsequently repeating a few lines by way of a chorus (and, if you’re lucky, this is the part where Gunn’s vocals get a little grittier, yay!). While this affords the record an inherent sense of cohesion, none of the songs here are particularly memorable or uh, good.

A step down lyrically from PVRIS's previous albums, but a step up in the production of the songs. Gunn continues to evolve and change PVRISA step down lyrically from PVRIS's previous albums, but a step up in the production of the songs. Gunn continues to evolve and change PVRIS sound, wish she would do the same with the lyrics. Full Review »

I don't know, I do feel there is a core in all of this.
For my first time hearing PVRIS, I find them amusing. Very creative with their energy and under control of their own empowerment. They know how to be playful and rebellious with their intensity, just as how much they show to be sensible and careful with their sensibility. I won't say this is a perfect album, because this also feels a lot like a fleeting power pop if it's "over-heard", but the beauty of the album is also on how strong it is to be a wonderful sudden listen, you know, something you let your playlist throws at you once in a while.
The lyrics are very dynamic too, there are no flaws on the production, the quality is crystal clear, and the complete composition shows a really young energy that promise to stick to the young souls of the future. Clearly this is a great team.
I'm keeping an eye on them from now on.
