  • Summary: Wales' Jem Griffiths makes her debut with this 11-track LP, which combines her vocals with downtempo electronica from Jem and collaborator Yoad Nevo, reminding critics of recent albums from Dido and Zero 7.

  1. The audio equivalent of a warm bubble bath.
  2. If this record has a problem, it's that it may be too cute for its own good.

The joyful whole has a depth and swagger that is as life-enhancing as popular music should be. [Mar 2005, p.100]
  4. Jem’s deadpan tones sound like a slightly huskier, sluttier Beth Orton, and while nothing quite matches the beguiling "They"... she strikes the odd thimbleful of gold.
  5. Jem is blessed not only with reedy pipes to rival Beth Orton's but also a sense of sonic humor.
  6. Overall, Jem's songcraft is only ambitious in relation to a genre often defined by a "blander is better" pleasure principle.
  7. With melodies like these, Jem could be singing lyrics like "Mentos, fresh and full of life" and you'd still never forget the tune. Indeed, upon closer inspection the words she does sing are not much better than a TV jingle.

well produced, catchy melodies, beautiful lush vocals; redundant at times with mediocre lyrics. as Jem's sound matures and takes more well produced, catchy melodies, beautiful lush vocals; redundant at times with mediocre lyrics. as Jem's sound matures and takes more direction, look for this downtempo/pop songstress to join the ranks of Dido Expand
