Jan 5, 2011Twin Shadow manages to stand out in a cluttered genre thanks to world-beating, danceable hooks and a surfeit of style.

Q MagazineDec 22, 2010Co-produced in the US by Grizzly Bear's Chris Taylor, Twin Shadow is assured hipster status in his adopted New York home. [Jan 2011, p.142]
-
Dec 21, 2010Unlike the many psychedelic loop-crazy Panda Bears popping up these days, Twin Shadow skilfully crafts structured songs that stand out and are full of soul and mournfulness.
-
UncutDec 20, 2010Like Blue Velvet, Forget is a lurid fever dream--and a magnificent hymn to suburban teenage romance. [Jan 2011, p.98]
-
MojoDec 20, 2010For a man with a suspect hipster mustache and a vast lick of asymmetrical hair, Lewis' music has serious depth. [Dec 2010, p.106]

Dec 13, 2010It's a mark of the album's strength that there aren't many standouts: there aren't any weak tracks either.
-
Dec 13, 2010If it hasn't already been made clear, there is a pretty constant, not to mention obvious, Eighties aesthetic permeating these eleven tracks. But it's been put together well enough that its never really overbearing or worse, a contrived mess.

Dec 13, 2010A daydream-like haze smudges the crispness of the beats while Lewis sings his osmotic melodies, his tones akin to Richard Swift gone disco.
-
Dec 13, 2010Lewis has made a striking debut that delights in the most surprising of ways.
-
Dec 13, 2010Remembering, reinventing and emerging with a record as joyful as it is tear-stained, Twin Shadow has crafted something that's understatedly, subtly, almost perfect.
-
The songs may be catchy, but their intricacy and thoughtful storytelling makes them stick. And for its impressive sonic sheen, the album's skillful restraint makes it sound better with every spin.
-
Although Forget might not usher in a new musical era, it's a near-flawless album and certainly one of the most impressive debuts we've ever seen. It might not change your life, but it will bury itself deep into your brain and make you feel good and warm for a couple of days.
-
Pompadoured George Taylor Jr. has more than enough melodic grace and pretty-boy swag to nail the sound.
-
Lewis may be covering territory that a lot of other artists tread, but he's earnest and soulful, injecting the romantic lyrics with a smoothness that reminds me of Avalon-era Roxy Music.
-
Twin Shadow wears his influences squarely on his aural sleeve, and more power to him-it's some rich source material, and those influences are part of the indie zeitgeist, as the modern/retro dividing line moves swiftly forward. Besides, Lewis wears it well--he's a solid songwriter, and most of these tunes, stripped of those trendy and nostalgic arrangements, would hold up just fine.
