Hammond seems to have a new lease on life, and that ebullience and curiosity are very much what makes Francis Trouble such a thrilling listen.

Francis Trouble is a bright blast of radiant, prismatic indie rock. More surprisingly still, it’s Albert’s most fun record yet, hurtling along on his trademark zipping guitar lines.

Though its second half isn't quite as deft as its first, Francis Trouble continues the streak Hammond, Jr. has been on since the AHJ EP. With albums like this, his identity as a master of smart, emotional guitar pop is secure.

Hammond isn't necessarily doing much different on this album but in terms of songwriting and consistency, this is a great album. Definitely worth a listen.
