  1. One of the best, if not the best, of the Brooklyn-based, Gang of Four-worshipping lot.
  2. *The* hook-saturated, dance-rock record of 2002.... A near-perfect hybrid of perpetual rhythm, flow and hooks.
  3. 'Gotham!' is an infinitely danceable and certainly insightful record that gets better with each listen, on every frequency.

Radio 4 evoke the Clash, Wire, Les Savy Fav and neo-new wave, jamming epileptic rhythms with chunks of white noise to get a restlessly eclectic sound. [Jun 2002, p.82]
  5. Half dance party, half political rally, Gotham is a rock record for a new era.

All the post-punk components are here, but they don't jell into anything more than a mannered take on the punk that punk forgot. [Jun/Jul 2002, p.112]
  7. My only complaint about this brilliant album is that the first half is so strong, the second half is weak in comparison.
  8. By the second and third tunes, the game is up. We get it: Gang of Radio 4. This is Radio 4 Clash. And so on.
  9. Uncut

A divine marriage of disco with discord that, while blatantly indebted to the mutant guitar funk of PiL, ACR, The Pop Group, Gang of Four, et al, enjoys the best of both disciplines. [Nov 2002, p.116]
  10. Only the dub-inflected excursion of "Pipe Bomb" and the Clash-style raver "Eyes Wide Open" manage to break from boredom and form long enough to feel somewhat genuine -- as long as you don't listen to any of the lyrics.
  11. Q Magazine

Struggle, New Disco, and Dance To The Underground are too-self conscious by half but they're still hoisted by a steamrolling dynamic and sharp hooks. [Nov 2002, p.110]
  12. Because the disc's energetic blend of electronics, robotics, and riffage is so vivacious, it hardly matters that the shadows of Radio 4's predecessors loom large over "Gotham."
  13. It's not a bad album by most standards-- in fact it's pretty good at points-- but in the end slides into a mire of adequacy after generating high expectations early on.
  14. What is really so special about Gotham! is its infectiousness.
