    Happy hour at the all-you-can-eat alt-rock buffet is clearly open. ... It’s all delivered rambunctiously enough that it’s easy to simply enjoy Gulp! as the alt-pop pick’n’mix it is. Go gorge.

    Unfortunately, this time around, the lyrics tend to be too opaque to pack quite the same punch. ... That said, there are plenty of songs sure to please diehard Sports Team fans.

    Rice, singing [on "Light Industry"] about “Bennie and the Jets and dreary weekend sex,” plays perfectly into the song’s hesitant mood. It’s the one moment on Gulp! where his audible exhaustion fits, a song that makes you wonder what the rest of the album would have be like if only the band could translate Rice’s weariness into something more suited to their strengths. Instead, Sports Team take a swing with Gulp! and barely make contact.

    Gulp! I found a damn good band. I wondered why Sports Team as a name and found that the lead guitarist used to be a sports reporter for CNN.Gulp! I found a damn good band. Love the rhythm and lead guitar work with no overbearing shouting vocals you can actually follow the lyrics. Just a lot of all around pub musicians that met in college with a strong sense of dry humor-love it! The house is rockin!… Full Review »
