    One of her best albums. She putted all the stages of her life of the last 5 years on it. All the songs looks like they complete each other and there's a lot of potential hits.

    The album is amazing, I don't understand how 'thank u, next' is getting better reviews (and I like Ariana's album too). For me 'Head Above Water' is the best album released this year. Avril overcame herself both lyrically and in production, the album is cohesive and has songs for all tastes.     Such a beautiful and inspiring album. Have no ideia why it's being bashed by so called "critics". It tells you a story, beginning to end, about her recovery not just from her illness but also her soul. The album starts with Avril praying to survive, following a toxic relationship that she finally get over with it, next discovering her inner strenght and then finding love again, now havingSuch a beautiful and inspiring album.     I loved this album! Songs all together create whole story and that's cool.
    "I fell in love with the devil" - lirycally awesome. Melody and the heartbeat make me feel like if I was the one, from whom those emotions come from. That's one of the best songs she has ever created!
    "It was in me" - When I first listened to it, I cried. It's a very beautiful song in which lyrics matches melody.    I loved this album! Songs all together create whole story and that's cool.

    Loved this album. It has some great ballads including I fell in love with the devil, It was in me and Head Above Water, as well as some really good songs to dance to.

    After her six-year break and almost dying, Avril Lavigne is BACK with her trademark vocals, inspiring lyrics and great production!

    Avril Lavigne still can make it brilliant, new and hopefull. It doesn't matter how long was the road she had to drive by, in the end she still can touch you with her music in a way nobody can. The best tracks are "It Was in Me", "Birdie" and "I fell in love with the Devil".

    This album was so well done, it was pure and the songs beautifully written, I can hear real instrumental and a real voice, opening up to the public from the heart, you can feel the songs and feel identified, Avril has always done that and this isn't the exception.

    This is definitely one of her albums in years. The lyrics are meaningful, the melodies are raw and great. It's incredible to see how her voice has grown. The production is as raw as the album, focusing on her voice instead of instruments. Best songs are Head Above Water, Birdie, I Fell In Love With The Devil and Crush. Dumb Blonde reminds me of her usual pop rock songs.

    Amazing album..best of her....music criticism is subjective...critics are mostly failed musicians giving high scores to trash albums instead...that explains all... vocals, melody, instrumentals as well as the lyrics are amazing.. you can feel her every word that she is singing.

Birdie, I Fell In Love With The Devil, Crush and It Was In Me really shine. The second half (except Crush) don't sound as powerful as the first but it's OK. As someone said here, good songs bridge the gap. She's never been a magnificentHer vocals sound so improved and they're very strong. She was right when she said that her voice was going to be the main instrument of the album. Birdie, I Fell In Love With The Devil, Crush and It Was In Me really shine. She's never been a magnificent songwriter anyways and also simplicity can be much better than redundant writing sometimes. I don't really get all the hate since most of the lyrics and metaphors are quite decent. It's sad to see an album like this is treated so harshly by the critics, definitely not fair. They should stop focusing on the "nudity" of the cover photo and Avril's past relationships and just focus on the music itself.… Expand

    The opening track 'Head Above Water' shows Avril at her lowest point of her illness, she sings "Yeah, my life is what I'm fighting for, Can't part the sea, can't reach the shore", soft vocals give us a vulnerable insight from the bed she was unable to escape, but she shows she's ready to fight this Lyme's disease illness with a powerful chorus that takes us back to 2004 album 'Under MyThe opening track 'Head Above Water' shows Avril at her lowest point of her illness, she sings "Yeah, my life is what I'm fighting for, Can't part the sea, can't reach the shore", soft vocals give us a vulnerable insight from the bed she was unable to escape, but she shows she's ready to fight this Lyme's disease illness with a powerful chorus that takes us back to 2004 album 'Under My Skin', but this a grown up Avril and the following Track 'Birdie' continues the strong lyrical content and theme of feeling trapped, the punchy verses and loud drums are a million miles from her pop singles of recent albums, this is the pop in which Avril shines. Track 3 'I Fell In Love With The Devil', an impressive song that sounds like classic Adele or Lana, you'd be inclined to see if she had sought the co-writers of those artists, but this is self-written by Lavigne herself and it's lyrics talk of being in love in a toxic relationship, "Shotguns and roses make a deadly potion", sweeping strings and haunting vocals make this an album highlight. Dumb Blonde harks back to vintage bratty Avril, it's a weak link but you can't help but find yourself immersed in catchy hooks and hard hitting lines "I can flip like a switch and I cut like a blade, I can sting like a bee, but I'm sweeter than honey", 'It Was In Me' with stunning vocals that see Lavigne talk abut the moment she realised she could find a happy place within herself, beautiful strings that hark back to her classic ballad 'I'm With You', it really feels like we are getting Avril at her best. The second half of the album is lighter, 'Souvenir' a grown up continuation of her 'Let Go' days is solid. Avril declares her fears of being crushed by her new lover in the jazzy track 'Crush', another track set to beautiful piano and strings and in 'Goddess', only Avril could get away with lyrics "He treats me like a goddess, goddess, He thinks I'm sexy in my pajamas, The more I am a hot mess, the more he goes bananas", set to acoustic guitars. The self-produced final track 'Warrior' gives us Avril letting us know she has won her battle. Sweeping strings, a backdrop of much of 'Head Above Water' and empowering vocals, it's a fitting ending to this album. The standout songs 'Birdie', 'I Fell In Love With The Devil' & 'It Was In Me' are some of Avril's best songs to date and for the most part it's a solid record, Let down by 'Dumb Blonde' and lack of variety on the back end of the album, where Avril starts to veer back into some of the basic lyrics that have often let her down. We see her potential and maybe one day we will get a great Avril Lavigne album, if not you know you are always guaranteed a few great songs.… Expand

The album is an experience, the production is on point, the vocals are insane and the lyrical content is acceptable in most part of the songs.     HAW surely is one of Avril's best albums and one of the best albums of 2019 (probably the best), it's a mature, deep, emotional, breathtaking album. Songs like IFILWTD, IWIM, Birdie, Warrior, Head above watter and Crush show us Avril's true musical power, all of the songs are amazing including dumb blonde which is a fun track that makes the album lighter.     This album may not be everyone’s favorite but for me I just loved how on most of the tracks she used real instrumentals and her voice on this album never sounded this good in a very long time.

    Excelent piece of art. Honest, pure, well-produced, ABSOLUTELY AMAZING VOCALS, catchy songs, emotional ones... amazing job. One of the best if not the best album from this extremely talented singer and songwriter, miss Avril Lavigne.

    I don't understand the low critic score for this album. It's very different than the old Avril, but she has matured and been through a lot. I also don't understand the comments about the track order being confusing. It literally tells a story, from start to finish.     This album has a different sound from everything Avril Lavigne has released previously. A more mature sound, more worked lyrics and better produced songs. Lavigne shows her vocal potential more clearly during the 12 tracks on the album. I have no words to describe how incredible that work was done by her. But it's just perfect. In fact she put up with all the waiting for the release.

    The production is on point, definitely a big step up from her last two albums, the lyrics show maturity and artistic growth, especially in the self-written I Fell in Love With The Devil.

    This album is so powerful, a true emotional journey. Avril's vocals were never as obvious as they are now. I fell in love with the devil, birdie, it was me and warrior deserve all recognition because they are perfect.

    So is this Avril's most memorable work? No. But does that detract from the strength of this record in her repertoire? Absolutely not. The lead single was stunning and I commend the maturation in Lavigne's style of music a la Tell Me It's Over, yet still embraces the bratty punk rocker a la Dumb Blonde. I consider this album in the holy trinity along with The Best Damn Thing and Goodbye Lullaby.

    Powerful, meaningful and vocally a masterpiece. Lavigne reinvented herself to popular music scenary, but hasn't lose her own style. The position of every song in this album is extremely pleaseful and don't tires us. So good.

    I don't get why the songwriting got so much hate by critics. At least she wrote the songs by herself unlike a lot of stars today who don't write a word on their albums. Overrall, it's not a bad album. There are some fillers but the good songs overshadow them. Highlights: Head Above Water, Tell Me It's Over, Dumb Blonde, Goddess and Warrior. Lows: Souvenir, Love Me Insane

    Following a nearly 6-year hiatus, Avril Lavigne comes out from a turbulent time in her life, battling Lyme disease, and releases an album full of maturity, personal growth, bare emotions and most of all, full of heart. She has poured herself into this record like she's never done before.

    For any fans of good, well written music out there, this is a MUST LISTEN.

    03 - I FEEL IN LOVE WITH THE DEVIL: essa é uma das músicas mais bem produzidas do álbum e, arrisco a dizer, de toda a carreira. Na faixa que inicia com um violino maravilhoso e toques de piano de arrepiar, Avril nos conta sobre uma pessoa pela qual se apaixonou, que foi como ter se apaixonado pelo diabo, que se sentia em um inferno, que a relação a estava matando e tudo que ela queria era que um anjo viesse salvá-la. Soa muito como músicas da banda Evanescence.

    04 - TELL ME IT'S OVER: essa foi o segundo single da era. Uma aposta totalmente diferente do habitual som de Lavigne. Um instrumental bonito, vocais maduros e poderosos, um ar meio "soul", onde nos fala ainda sobre um relacionamento tóxico, que ela sabe que precisa acabar, mas que nem sempre é tão fácil assim romper.

    05 - DUMB BLONDE: logo de cara temos um choque ao ouvir esta música, que nos lembra um dos maiores álbuns de sucesso da cantora, o The Best Damn Thing, que garantiu o primeiro #1 da carreira. É uma faixa animada, com batidas "a la" Hollaback Girl, com um ar "cheer leader". A letra é muito empoderada e, em entrevista, Avril disse que foi uma resposta a um homem que disse que ela era apenas uma loira burra. Ela responde com "me assista mostrar que você está errado". Temos uma versão solo da música onde ela faz um rap no final, e também uma (que se tornou o terceiro single do álbum) com a rapper Nicki Minaj. É de longe a faixa mais diferente de todo álbum.

    06 - IT WAS IN ME: com certeza uma das melhores músicas da carreira, que também lembra um pouco algo do álbum Under My Skin. Essa é uma música sobre procurar suas forças, procurar sua fé em vários lugares, sobre encontrar Deus e principalmente a fé em si mesmo. O refrão é poderoso, as batidas são incríveis e a letra é uma obra de arte.

    07 - SOUVENIR: depois de tantas faixas pesadas, temos uma música gostosinha de ouvir, que um pouco na letra e um pouco na melodia e na "batidinha" gostosa, nos lembra músicas do primeiro álbum, Let Go (que também é um dos maiores álbuns de todos os tempos). Lavigne fala sobre um amor de verão, sobre sentimentos dessa época, coisas passageiras e que não duram (mas que podem durar, quem sabe?) e sobre querer levar isso guardado consigo, como uma lembrancinha de viagem (souvenir).

    08 - CRUSH: o nome da faixa pode não animar muito e soar clichê, mas não se engane. O instrumental da música surpreende no início, os vocais lembram um pouco Tell Me It's Over. Poderia ter sido lançada no Natal, tem um ar bem propício a essa época do ano. A música surpreende muito em letra, melodia e sentimento.

    09 - GODDESS: única música mais acústica do álbum. O violão traz uma harmonia muito boa que combina perfeitamente com o estilo da música. Algumas rimas aqui soam engraçadas, mas é aquele sentimento de sentir-se amado e meio bobo. É muito divertida!

    10 - BIGGER WOW: "na na na na. na na na..." É assim que começa uma das músicas mais animadas do álbum e que condiz com seu restante. É uma "good vibes" de qualidade, que também lembra um pouco algumas músicas do Let Go, como My World e Things Will I Never Say. Deve ficar maravilhosa cantada ao vivo!

    11 - LOVE ME INSANE: a faixa segue uma linha animada também, talvez um pouco inferior a produção impecável de algumas outras faixas, mas ainda assim é uma música muito boa, Avril mostra que sabe que ainda tem muita coisa boa por vir em sua vida.

    12 - WARRIOR: como todo enceramento de álbum da cantora, é uma faixa poderosa e maravilhosa. Warrior também remete à doença de Lyme e a batalha que a cantora enfrentou e ainda enfrenta. Nela sabemos que Avril não irá se curvar, não irá quebrar, que continua e continuará sempre lutando por sua vida e sua saúde. Os violinos são de arrepiar! A faixa é carregada e poderosa, é linda e nos faz ter vontade de ouvir o álbum todo novamente.    … Expand

    HAW is a mature album. She clearly evolved comparing to the last three of her career. The only frank point is Dumb Blonde that is different of the rest of the songs from this album.

    Lavigne passou 2 anos em sua cama certo? esse álbum retrata bem o que a mulher passou e viveu, enfrentou a morte e a derrotou e fez sua Vitória em um álbum surpreendentemente bonito, as mensagens que as músicas passam e claro o significado que cada uma tem para lavigne, uma de minhas favoritas foi birdie e tenho certeza que falo em nome dos fãs que ela poderia ser seu próximo single.

    The best tracks here are those which delve into the power ballads that we know Lavigne can produce so effectively. But other than the album's self-titled lead single and It Was In Me, with soaring orchestrals and subtle keys paving the way for her lung-bursting croons, it feels much like a lost Lavigne seeking a sound that’ll just keep her afloat.

    On every track, the mad-libs are paired with stylistically diverse arrangements--and invariably plodding tempos. The album’s lone sugar spike is “Dumb Blonde,” a rehashed “Girlfriend” that features a phoned-in Nicki Minaj guest verse midway through and, for some reason, a pre-chorus melody yanked from Lipps, Inc.’s “Funky Town.” In spite of everything, Head Above Water offers one brief moment where Lavigne’s emotional alchemy assumes a bolder musical form that’s properly befitting of her powerhouse vocals and enduring authenticity: the opening stunner of a title track.
