Raw in places, expansive in others, and rife with Williams’ patented street-corner-talking, pimp-swagger style, I Wanna Go Back to Detroit City is as good a postcard for the Motor City as you’ll likely find all year.

The nine sizzling tracks here may fly by, but reveal a true pioneer still firing on his much-abused cylinders.

He's back again, doing what he's always done--speak his shattered mind while some band choogles in the background. Mostly they supply adequately sweaty R&B and P-Funk-meets-AC/DC riffing. [No. 132, p.61]

It’s hard to imagine that after a few spins, most won’t file this with Williams’ other similarly styled albums that, even with his distinctively wacked-out approach, are starting to sound routine, if not flat out lazy.
