Summary:The fifth full-length release for the British indie rock band was self-produced and features a guest appearance from Rachel Goswell of Slowdive.
From the haunting atmospherics to the ‘80s soaked electronica, there is much to love about the album. Those looking for the band that first appeared in 2002, however, will be disappointed--the traces are almost completely gone, so it’s time to accept and embrace the new Editors.

And unlike the other reviewers here, this "sophistication" does not seem forced nor unnecessarily complex to me. I think the band is trying to define itself somewhere between new-wave and post punk and this album is a great combination of both genres. It is definitely a strong 8 to weak 9.…Expand

Editors are looking at In Dream for a way through the synth-pop of the eighties and adding the influences from electronic music to it. TheEditors are looking at In Dream for a way through the synth-pop of the eighties and adding the influences from electronic music to it. The dreamlike atmospheres which the band creates aren't equally spread between the songs. Where the musicality sometimes effectively works towards the moment of discharge, other numbers remain too much on the surface of the music of the past. Yet the band in its more sophisticated sounds and with the addition of Rachel Goswell maintain itself in their musical development.…Collapse

This is the bands fifth release and it is another one that doesn't define who they are. I don't understand what they are trying to do anymore. There are two good tracks on this album, ocean of night and marching orders. A critic has described this album as Kubrickian. That is a disgrace to the great man who's attention to detail was so intense it was scary. This album is no stand out and Editors remain in music purgatory for another year like a person who doesn't know who they are. 6 out of 10. An album that will be forgotten and make a hard quiz question in only a few months time.…Expand

The only song which wasBoring uninspired lyrics, overly ambitious arena rock with 80's influences. This albums hits are few and far between. The only song which was above mediocre is Life Is a Fear but even that reaches the bare minimum requirement for a dark wave/ post punk song, which I believe is the genre Editors thrive in, the genre which made them a cult classic with their first album. Go listen to Muse instead of this album, at least they have charisma and character.…Expand

I listened to the album and all the tracks are boring! This is not the same band unfortunately. The album artwork is a disappointment (only Tom on the cover, why?), the lyrics did not inspire anything. This is a Dreamy album? Of course not. Editors are nothing now. Bye Editors RIP.…Expand
