Sep 27, 2021From start to finish, lolling hooks flood Cara's mind as much as indecision, skepticism, and other negative thoughts. They make all the bad stuff go down easy, enabling the listener to have a proper sulk that soothes.

Sep 27, 2021At 18 tracks, ‘In the Meantime’ meanders a bit towards the finish, though there are no real duds here.

Sep 29, 2021The themes Cara explores here are moving and mature, but she dilutes them when she relies too much on metaphor and conceit.

Sep 27, 2021A big throughline of this album is Cara wondering whether she can trust her own mind. But the melodicism and warmth of most of these songs, like “Fishbowl,” “Voice In My Head,” and “Somebody Else,” don’t betray any actual disillusionment. That’s not a bad thing considering the radio is teeming with sad songs right now. The world could use a little more light.
