    90s hip-hop is all over this album; it's grungy and raw, and the lyrics are top tier. I really didnt know what to expect from jhope but i was pleasantly surprised. His most cohesive body of work, "Jack in the Box" is a nostalgic throwback to 90s hip-hop mixed with his own style and lyrics. the album is a whole audio experience when it comes to the production too . Listening to it from90s hip-hop is all over this album; it's grungy and raw, and the lyrics are top tier. I really didnt know what to expect from jhope but i was pleasantly surprised. His most cohesive body of work, "Jack in the Box" is a nostalgic throwback to 90s hip-hop mixed with his own style and lyrics. the album is a whole audio experience when it comes to the production too .     hobi do not disappoint! my fav is what if cause I relate to it but production wise i loooove more and arson and i understand why he picked them for the titles tracks. I was particularly surprised by Pandora’s box

    I'm at a loss for words. What an artist. I've never listened to BTS before this but I've never been pulled so deeply into an album before, and I've been around some years. As I was reading the lyrics with the music and learned about J-hope's story through other articles, it really touched me and putting aside the fame, I believe it's relatable even to those who aren't artists. While our lives aren't predictable and I know for sure the western industry isn't going to be kind to any of these guys regardless of what they release, I wish nothing but the best for his future as an artist, BTS as well. This was a beautifully constructed and well-thought album. I wasn't able to snag any tickets but I will definitely be tuning in for Lollapalooza to support and scream for him when I can.     This albums is so nostalgic for me and my family. The beat, the flow, the sound of it all. It brings back that old school vibe that I grew up on and it’s something that I can cherish so closely, even reading the lyrics makes me think deeper. Truly so proud of Jhope and I didn’t expect anything less from him!

Equal Sign kind of switches it up texturally with sweet melodic singing and the synth shimmers and glitters throughout. My favorite, however, are safety zone and future, sonically so infectious and stunning production again. Arson is the perfect end, wrapping up but not quite ending a tale of ambition, hunger, insecurity, anger, empathy and hopefulness with an ethical dilemma: do we let the embers we lit , burn everything down, or do we put an end to it? More interestingly, can we even put an end to the fire an artist at the height of his craft unleashes on to the world.… Expand

The album dives into an even deeper continuation of Jung Hoseok's (J-Hope's) previous work that dealt with the inner workings of the self, dreams, hope, and peace. While his first mixtape seems vibrant in color and sound, he has more than many times written stories that are more deeper and cutthroat. We see this in his sound for Jack in the Box, more intensified yet more vulnerable. It's nitty and gritty in sound playing with hiphop, punk rock, and rnb, and the lyricism plays with direct yet also implied meanings through which language and culture cannot fully interpret to accuracy, and that makes this album even more phenomenal. The mixing and sound engineering that goes down to each track is well thought out and blends well with J-hope's rap and vocals. Not banking on meeting the general public eye's taste with digestible pop, the experimentation and out-of-convention work this album serves just proves the artistic genius that is Jack in the Box— released and out of the box entirely.… Expand

    An incredible body of work, from start to finish. As soon as the intro starts, it welcomes you into a new world, making you fully consumed of it's world. All tracks flow greatly with one another, telling a great story about jhope, as an artist, after a decade fully emerged in the music industry. Overall a really good album, with even greater songs

The whole concept was amazing, the way each song tells you a story itself and Jung Hoseok connected them together so beautifully, it isn’t easy to do so, yet he had done it. His lyricsm is on another level, he is so poetic and can convey his messages amazingly. Also he managed to put out many different genres, diving into new ones too and showed his ability to go out of the box and try out new things and show different sides of himself. Everything about this album is great, the titles, lyrics, story behind them, sound, genres, everthing. Breathe of fresh air, whilst being raw and vulnerable, showing multiple meanings and stories and music to the ears. J-Hope has done it once again!… Expand

    J-hope is the first member of the superstar group BTS who recently announced to release their individual albums in the upcoming period alongside their group activities. Album consists of 10 tracks visiting and mixing many genres from old school hiphop to emo rock music. Intro opens the album with explaining Pandora’s Box myth which is also one of the tracks’ name.     An amazing album that showcases all the various strong points of J-Hope that some people could still not be aware of. An amazing body of art clearly crafted with care and love towards music and it’s meaning. A 10/10, but nothing less could be expected from a BTS member.

    Whether the music on Jack in the Box suits your taste or not, it’s hard to dismiss this album as an artistic statement rather than just chapter 1/7 of BTS proving they can also make money in ways beyond official group releases.

    There’s an excellent three track run from “What if…,” an energetic song that samples Ol’ Dirty Bastard’s “Shimmy Shimmy Ya,” into mid-tempo standout “Safety Zone” before a touch of Hope World familiarity returns in the optimistic “Future.”
