Keep Your Dreams is, for the most part, a breath of fresh air suggesting that two pairs of Aussie DJ hands are certainly better than one.

For all of its work with dance music, some of Canyons' strongest tracks rely more on sounding like a band rather than a production duo.

Being students of dance music's rich history is nothing new, but the Australian duo, Canyons, take wistfulness to a new level.

When they go for manic instead of mellow, Canyons do bring something new, even if it's just intensity, to the 80s retro party.

The fact that a few more structured, disco-leaning tracks fill out the album can't entirely redeem the aimlessness that pervades so much of the disc, leaving Keep Your Dreams in muddled territory.

Dancing through this post-genre utopia, Canyons never quite finds an identity to call its own.

On most of Keep Your Dreams, Canyons are trying too hard to be everything all the time. It's obvious they have all the tools they'll need, but it'll be a little longer before they build something really worthwhile.
