  1. It may never fly in the conservatory, but the music of Clogs is sure to make the bar set feel a little more cultured.
  2. Sensuous, subtle but emotionally overwhelming dreamscapes, whose luminous beauty makes pigeonholing nigh on impossible.
  3. They capture and transform generic ideas about space and environment in ways beyond the grasp of most bands. Sadly, this approach limits their accessibility; even so, theirs is a world well worth, at least, a visit.
  4. The best approach here is to set aside genre delineations (who needs 'em?) and simply surrender.
  5. Particularly in the lugubrious opening half of the disc, Clogs tends to repeat things simply for the sake of repeating them without really building towards anything.

For those inclined toward the indie end of things, there's plenty to like here, but there's also plenty that will inspire head-scratching or, worse yet, yawns. [#71, p.89]
  7. Exceptionally beautiful and assured.
  8. Paste Magazine
    70
    Intricate and atmospheric. [Feb/Mar 2006, p.102]
  9. If this is your first exposure to Clogs, you've picked a fantastic time to become acquainted.
  10. This is music that never quite settles; it's in perpetual motion.
  11. Their music is exquisite; it rocks, saws and sings its way into your heart.
  12. Q Magazine
    70
There's no denying its stout hart. [Apr 2006, p.113]
  13. For those familiar with the music of Clogs, Lantern won't sound like much of a departure, but a definite improvement. The nuance of piano, the swelling strings that exercise restraint, the welling and wheeze of a crescendo – it all delivers.
  14. Uncut
    80
The 'contemporary classical' tag doesn't do justice to their cinematic, intense instrumental narratives. [Mar 2006, p.104]

I know very little about The National, but I do know about the Clogs. And I like the Clogs. This one tops the excellant Stick Music.

Marvellous instrumental album. Better than anything with a voice so far this year.
