It won't satisfy hook-hungry Jewel fans, but Learn to Sing wears Hersh's experience like a custom-tailored hair shirt. [Feb 2007, p.84]
  2. Sometimes the album slips into haziness. But the best songs are unsettling in a good way.

As usual, if you scratch the surface there's a lot more going on than you'd initially realised. [20 Jan 2007, p.31]

A million steps forward for Hersh (especially after the morose and, quite frankly, dull "The Grotto"). This is an album of lush beauty and A million steps forward for Hersh (especially after the morose and, quite frankly, dull "The Grotto"). This is an album of lush beauty and stunning arrangements.
