  1. It's an invigorating, electric blend that is pushed over the top by lyrics that are smart and spiritual without ever pressing too hard.
  2. Taking a cue from the success of his last major hit, "Again," Lenny, the sensitive, midtempo balladeer, cavorts all over this largely reflective, romantic effort.
  3. As before, it's a heady swirl of rock, soul and hippy lyrics. However, it feels fantastic and, unless the record company is snoring soundly, it's full of hits.

No matter how much Lenny plays it hard, there isn't that much difference between his ballads and his rock moves. [Dec 2001, p.151]
  5. As always, Kravitz infuses his rock with enough funk to get you moving, and his catchy choruses will echo in your head long after the album ends.
  6. Nothing on Lenny can match "Again," but he gets close sometimes, lumbering with a meatball sense of purpose that's all his own.
  7. While it's hard not to wish that Kravitz's music was just a few degrees better than it actually is, he has improved over the years.
  8. There's very little on 'Lenny' that isn't a re-hash of former hits.
  9. Blender

Its 12 tracks are unusually raucous and raw, as Kravitz finds a comfort zone with turbocharged punk and arena rock. [Oct/Nov 2001, p.111]
  10. Uncut
    40
This eponymous effort does little to dispel the notion that he's a bit of a swaggering caricature. [Jan 2002, p.142]
  11. 80
Lenny benefits from being Kravitz's most consistent album in years, if ever.
  12. This easily stands alongside his first three albums as a set of classy, near-irresistible pop for listeners weaned on classic and college rock, which is a wholly welcome surprise.
