Very lackluster album from Foals. There are a couple of catchy songs, but everything sounds the same. This is the worst album of their career in my opinion.

They already released all their best stuff as singles. Everything else on this album feels like repetitive filler. About 4 tracks in, I found myself longing for the depth and layers they executed so effortlessly with past hits like Spanish Sahara or Mountain at my Gates or the bombast and edginess of Albatross or Snake Oil or Inhaler. Sadly, you will find none of that on here. This albumThey already released all their best stuff as singles. Everything else on this album feels like repetitive filler. Sadly, you will find none of that on here. This album was marketed as a relaxing album for the summer. Can't deny it is relaxing, but perhaps so relaxing it will send you to sleep in your hammock. You can't fault them for not just playing it safe and trying something new, sure, but they have sacrificed too much of what made their previous albums great in the process. I hope this is simply just a temporary lapse of judgement by a band that rarely puts a foot wrong and they will bounce back with their signature sound. But that's just my opinion. Some people may really enjoy this. Perhaps if they had been able to weave in a few heavier tracks, this might have worked. I would absolutely love them to weave some of the hooks in this album into future albums. Best tracks for me are Wake Me Up, 2am, 2001. Crest of the Wave and Summer Sky are okay but never really deliver on their promise. This is probably the first album that ends on a low with the very poor and forgettable Wild Green. Even when the Foals mess up they don't really mess up which is testament to their quality. But make no mistake, for me, this is a huge fail. I doubt I will give this many repeat listens. I already found myself returning to previous albums. Expand

I have to say I agree with the other user reviews so far. The album is well produced, uplifting, with some catchy tunes, but it's not the Foals we used to know. Where are the heavy guitars from What Went Down? Where are the haunting melodies from Total Life Forever? Where are the haunting melodies from Total Life Forever? It's frustrating because I know they have the potential to be the best band in the world, but they have, like so many other promising bands in the past, either run out of inspiration or decided to go down a more 'disco', 'commercial' route. I think I unfortunately just have to accept that they reached their peak between 2010 and 2015 and that it's going to be downhill from now on... I really hope I'm wrong and this was just a one-off though. Expand

They are a restless band, yes, but Life Is Yours proves that a narrower focus can bring the most returns.

Fueled by the long-promised light at the end of the tunnel after the COVID-19 lockdown, it's also the band's most vibrant and accessible outing to date.

Without a feeling that it’s intentionally waiting for the rain in order to go out dancing in it, it draws on its authors’ memories of the good times – reflecting, according to Philippakis, right back to their earliest days – and projects them huge and bright.
