It’s a rich, rewarding record, which should see Laura Burhenn and The Mynabirds progress to the next level of established American songwriters.

It's both quiet and grand, sad and sweet, and undeniably human.

If Lovers Know initially feels like it’s dipping into the golden age of the American songbook, then this must be the most fruitful panning for gold to be released in eons.

Burhenn’s remarkable vocal dexterity that allowed her to jump tempos and genres so easily there is still alive and well on Lovers Know, yet embedded here in a dense synthpop milieu.

A record that requires some time to get acquainted, and rewards repeated listening. [Aug-Sep 2015, p.66]

The Mynabirds should probably have cut a couple of the less memorable and longer songs (“Omaha” and “Hanged Man”) to keep the disc focused. Even so, Lovers Know makes a strong statement, full of well-rendered wisdom and heart.

Burhenn isn’t breaking any new ground with her lyrics, but the heartfelt delivery conveys a sort of factual, universal truth that is rare in such personal songs.

Lovers Know is an unexpected turn that is saved by the passion of the performer behind it. [No. 123, p.61]

While there is much to relish on Lovers Know, the studio-driven nature of the album feels sterile and rote, shoehorning Burhenn’s wide worldview into narrow refrains and clichéd choruses, thus caging a once wild voice.

Back to the future, but intoxicatingly so. [Sep 2015, p.78]
