It's a perfect match with producer Richard Hawley, who here channels his love of epic reverb pop to more interesting ends than on his solo albums. [Dex 2008, p.86]
  2. ‘Amarillo’ Man records Richard Hawley-produced album of songs from Sheffield.
  3. Made In Sheffield is a surprising record, lovingly conceived and beautifully executed.
  4. For long time observers though, the return of Tony Christie to the arena of mature balladry and lush production values will do plenty to gladden the heart.
  5. This is a quiet, dignified record which, while maybe not being the most exciting album you'll hear all year, would make a cracking Christmas present for the more mature relative in your life.
  6. The new arrangements don't add lustre to every track; Hawley's own 'Coles Corner' was so expertly crooned the first time that it feels unnecessary here. But more incongruous reworkings, including a version of the Human League's 'Louise', fare better and Christie's voice is engaging throughout.
  7. Hawley's own sentimental nostalgia is perfectly tailored to Christie's velveteen croon - perhaps too perfectly, because the deep-pile strings and lapsteel reduce too many songs to high-class mood music.

These sweetly sad songs of grown up, imperfect romance reach their height with a jazzy version of Hawley's own 'Coles Corner,' where dreams and reality intermingle around Sheffield's now-demolished romatic rendezvous of the same name. [Dec 2008, p.100]

Anyone unfamiliar with Sheffield's rich musical heritage could be left thinking the city's main legacy was maudlin ballads for the Saga set. [Dec 2008, p.128]
