Even if some of the dizzying stylistic shifts will be familiar from his day job, the quirky, urbane character is all Baio. [Aug 2017, p.102]

Sonically and narratively many of these cuts are smarter than they seem.

Man of the World may be missing the danceable spirit of Baio’s earlier work, but it’s the album we need in 2017: a juxtaposition of hopeful music and apprehensive lyrics, vocalizing concerns many of us are feeling but few can so masterfully articulate.

On the whole, despite its anxious state, Man of the World's danceable, sparkling textures and idiosyncratic melodies make for a satisfying summery treat.

Too many tracks wrap mildly neurotic musings in self-consciously quirky, deadeningly tasteful, grown-up indie-pop crooning. [Aug 2017, p.25]

Often, it’s an insightful and engaging look into what it feels like to be of everywhere and nowhere simultaneously, without alienating anyone simply looking for a catchy pop song. It’s simply a shame that Baio didn’t alienate some of his own desires to wander through genres.

There is rarely nuance to Baio’s lyrics, and everything is offered up with little in the way of poetry or insight.
