This album pales in comparison to some of their earlier work and it is easy to see why. Several of the songs are too slow and have nothing going on, while others just have unnecessary added elements that none of the fans really asked for. However, some of the songs do work well with the more modern and electric element, most notably Stay Frosty Royal Milk Tea which is my personal favorite from the album. Other songs on the album like The Last Of The Real Ones and Wilson have tastes of being a great fall out boy song but still don't seem to come close. In conclusion the album does have some good elements to it but is overall pretty disappointing compared to most of Fall Out Boy's work. Expand

I totally credit the risk of the sounds they experimented with,t they gave us something different without losing Fall Out Boy's signature. They could have done a little better in a couple of songs, maybe, but the album shows perfectly the meaning of "mania".

MANIA is the most recent Fall Out Boy album, and it was rather disappointing. When I was listening to American Beauty/American Psycho, I thought the rock band did a good job creating a poppy album, but I also knew there was danger involved with exploring this area. The pop stuff is fun (and for the most part, works). At the same time however, Fall Out Boy started off as a really good rock band. I get that they’re trying out new styles, but in my opinion they should go back to what they’re really good at. It would be so much better to be an amazing rock band instead of a mediocre pop band. While Psycho strayed a little from the band’s roots, it was still a fairly well done album, but MANIA feels altogether foreign. As a whole this album seems to be a bit lackluster yet still overproduced. There were a couple songs I enjoyed, but for the most part the work appeared to alternate between forced and low-effort. I wish I could give my full song-to-song commentary, but that would push this review over the 5000 character limit. Overall, I am pretty upset about the way MANIA turned out. This is my first review for a Fall Out Boy album that isn’t a good one, and this is saddening. The group is certainly one of my favorite bands, though is it disappointing to expect something wonderful from their last release and get a MANIA. While this album was definitely a misfire, I will not let it ruin the other releases, as Folie is one of my all time favorite records (see what I did there?). I will also be on the lookout for more FoB releases coming up, as MANIA was released a couple years ago, so hopefully a new (but better) album is in the works. Unfortunately, I do not recommend this Fall Out Boy outing. Fans of the band will be happier treating American Beauty/American Psycho as FoB’s last release, though there were a couple songs (such as “Last”) that feel like they would be at home in the artist's 2015 release. Highlights: The Last Of The Real Ones, Wilson, Church, and Bishops Knife Trick.

This album is far from the "fresh start" that Pete Wentz claimed the album to be. Most of the lyrics are cheap echos of Infinity on High paired with overstuffed, over produced, pop music. The only sufferable songs are Church, Sunshine Riptide, and Heavens Gate, but just barely. There are maybe like three themes that reoccur in almost every song and the rest is formulaic dribble. As a lifelong fall out boy fan I am thoroughly disappointed the direction the band seems to be taking. I yearn for the days when Fall Out Boy's poetic lyrics would grab you by the throat and not let go, paired with the epitome of pop punk grunge rock n roll. They were truly the voice of a generation at one point, but now that that era is fading will the world still have a place for Fall Out Boy? Expand

Compared to the previous new-wave Fall Out Boy albums, this one lacks the personality and fluidity of the majority of Fall Out Boy's previous works. I found myself wishing to hear the classic style of Fall Out Boy's early albums as I listened to some of the songs in M A N I A, but there are a few tracks that shine brighter than the others in terms of vocals and note progression. Overall, this album has too much pop and not enough of the punk that Fall Out Boy used to offer, even in their previous recent albums. As a long-time fan, I recognize this as Fall Out Boy's second wave of experimental albums. The record has a lot of similarities to 2008's Folie a Deux, which was also not commercially successful.

MANIA is one of their more experimental albums, strong focus on more electronic instrumentals but maintains a fall out boy style music. One of the most "sharp-edged" and experimental album by them.
Their electric influences were good overall. And in the later half of the album, you can see the diversity of music, such as R&B-ish slow song

Album is corny and just a mess. Cheesy lyrics and it feels like the band is trying way too hard to fit in with today's pop music (which is filled with trap and hip hop so why even try to bring a sound like they brought in the album). Feels way too commercial which takes away from the enjoyment of this LP. It's bad.

Before i'm gonna talk about the negatives, I gotta give Fall out Boy credit. They did try something new and it felt like they gave it their all. There are some decent songs on here. Stay Frosty Royal Milk tea and Hold me tight or don't are fine pop songs. Unfortenately it didn't work out. The songs don't feel like a connected whole and just feel like some sort of weird mash of dumb lyrics and overproduced instrument. A good chunk of the album has some questionable lyrics. Young and Menace starts out fine, but then shifts into the chorus. It tries to say a lot, but says nothing at all. Riptide Sunside is attempting to say something deep, but takes this hippy and happy aproach. Church is this overly cheesy song about love and just feels dumb. If the lyrics aren't awful, they just transform into bland forgetable pop mixes with trap. Ironically this album is like a mania to listen to. It takes and leaves you at random places through the album. It tries electro disco and then trap and goes to rock again. It's just an uneasy and unlikable mix genres.

Overall consensus: At it's best, Mania delivers some emo-ready dance-pop songs. At it's worst, the unlikable mixes of genres just make it an uneasy experience

None of the singles really seem to have any set direction, and the electro-tinged pop that they flirt with do not mesh well with FOB's staple pop-punk sound. Panic! At The Disco's latest record also includes a much more refined EDM-pop sound when compared to what they produced in their earlier days. However, P!ATD says true to frontman Brendon Urie's charismatic style and tone, whereas Fall Out Boy seems to have sacrificed the band's heart and soul to experiment in musical styles, and ended up producing an album that is certainly bold, but that is of sub-par quality. It's really really really good. But I can't find "punk" in this album and that's why old fans hate FOB's new style. Well, give the boys a break... everybody changes.

Although largely an experimental album, Fall Out Boy still proves they still have that touch. Some of the songs don't hit at all, but the ones that do are quite memorable. That said, I don't think the album as a whole is better than American Beauty/American Psycho, but comes really close.

As I see, most of the critics haven't understood this record yet, like it was with Folie, which people think that it's their best album now, while those times they hated it. But the time will show us the true worth of this record, and now the future looks good.

M A N I A is truly a manic album, nothing about it is cohesive. But just about everything about it is repetitive. How many times do I have to hear the same words over and over again?! These are not the lyrics you would expect from Pete Wentz. However, I do enjoy some of the album including songs such as, Stay Frosty Royal Milk Tea, HOLD ME TIGHT OR DON'T, The Last of the Real Ones, Wilson (Expensive Mistakes), and Bishops Knife Trick. Unfortunately, the OK songs and the awful songs weigh down the album. The OK songs consist of, Champion, Church, and Heaven's Gate. The awful songs include Young and Menace, and Sunshine Riptide. So, yeah Fall Out Boy finally put out awful songs, that pretty much tells you everything you need to know about how I feel about this album. You can do better Fall Out Boy and you have. Two lines from Champion also sum up my opinion on this album: "I'm calling you from the future. To let you know we've made a mistake." Yeah, it was making this album. 2.5/5 Expand

This band definitely deserves points for the experimental nature of this album. A number of genres are explored in each song, proving Fall Out Boy’s claim that genre is irrelevant in this day and age. Though it’s a bit short— a ten song album— nearly each song is enough of a journey to make up for it. There’s something for everyone.

Not the worst album ever, but extremely mediocre. Fall Out Boy is a very talented group but here you don't see as much as that. There are some great songs like Last of the Real Ones, Stay Frosty and a few others, but for the most part, Mania is rather messy and a weak release coming from a talented group.

I went into this album thinking that I would hate it, but I was wrong. The single Young and Menace just put it off to a rocky start. Many people hated it, but I didn't mind it. It was most certainly NOT a Fall Out Boy song, though. I thought that they would completely swear off their old sound in this album, but not quite. You can still see a hint of that old FOB in there. In M A N I A, the band decided to experiment a bit more, with EDM, some funk elements, and even some reggae, in one of my favorite songs on the album, HOLD ME TIGHT OR DON'T. This album shows more of the true skill and ability that Fall Out Boy have, because they can learn to adapt to any genre, yet still sound good. There are some underwhelming parts on the album, but no songs are truly "bad", unless you're someone who would count Young and Menace as bad. It was a fun, and short listen, and I would recommend it to anyone that is a fan of mainstream music. If you are an old, hardcore FOB fan though, I have some bad news for you. The old sound is just about gone. Expand

It's a new age for FOB and they're trying new things, as they've always done. I like to see a band coming out of their comfort zone and experiencing stuff, this reveals versatility and adaptation, I mean, you may not want a person to do the same thing for years and years. MANIA is a pretty good record, and as for the instruments, you can always hear them live.

The secret to Fall Out Boy's longevity is best showcased in this album: they are not afraid to try new styles and at the same time stay true to themselves. This is not the type of album you listen only once to understand it, but I'm afraid most people won't get that.

My God critics are harsh on this album... I've seen a lot of crap getting thrown at this LP. Don't get me wrong, it's not perfect... but I think people are seriously under rating this damn addition to Fall Out Boy's discography.

People seemed to think it would be far more experimental then it turned out to be. And... yeah, it's pretty similar to FOB's previous work. However, I'm leaving that as a failure of advertising as opposed to a failure of the music. I'ts best to judge a music as is, not based on pre-conceptions.

Let's start with flaws. First off, pacing. It's a very fast paced album, and has no slower tracks. Not a massive flaw, but this can cause the album to become tiring when on repeat. That, mixed with it's surprisingly short run time means it's the kind of album to play once or twice then put away for later. Don't get me wrong, I love fast music - one of my favorite albums is Mastodon's "Remission"... but even that had a break half way through at the beginning of O'le Nessie. Had FOB thrown in just a short little piece to give listeners a breather, it would be much more enjoyable over extended periods of time.

Second, some of the experimental choices didn't pay off. My biggest problem was with "Stay Frosty Royal Milk Tea." Not with the pounding base, that's awesome. But that one line in french sounds really awkward and forced... it pulls you out of the experience of what could have been an amazing song.

The key word there was some. Others work amazingly, like the choir's in "Church" (Personally my favorite song off the album. My God it's fantastic!). Each song has it's similarities, but each song is also fairly unique except for a few tracks, mostly the singles.

Furthermore, though similar in sound to previous records, FOB still pulls off their sound tremendously, the singing is full of confidence (minus that one line), the instrumentals are still blood pumping and kick ass... I don't mind that it sounds traditional, because it's done very well. If it aint broke, don't fix it.

Honestly, it's nothing special. But it doesn't need to be special to still be worth many hours of musical entertainment... Not prefect, damn solid.

    7/10 - Very Good

Very original, and creative. I love how Fall Out Boy is experimenting with new Ideas, but staying true to their Pop-Rock origins. Critics, and salty fans need to stop living in the past, and being overly contradictory of anything they disagree with.

A pretty good album overall. Far from their best work, but M A N I A has plenty of unique and catchy tunes.

Least favorites: Champion, Heaven's Gates (decent song just out of place from rest of album)

Fall out Boy's previous two albums have been absolutely phenomenal and while I still really like this album unfortunately it doesn't quite live up to the high bar set by Save Rock and Roll as well as American Beauty/American Psycho. Also whereas in the past when Fall out Boy has done a collab on one of their albums they normally turn out to be among the best songs on the album however with Sunshine Riptide the collaboration part drags the song down from being amazing to being good, which is a real shame because every part of Sunshine riptide is amazing except for the one verse that Burna Boy lazily mumble raps through. On the whole MANIA is a solid Fall Out Boy album which could have used a few more tracks and a little less experimentation. I would definitely recommend it. Expand

MANIA is a wild ride, covering a bunch of different genres. The result is an eclectic album, that is odd to listen to, but still overall pleasant. It also felt a bit short, it could have used an extra song or two. If you're a fan, you'll probably learn to love it, if you aren't, this is not the album to convert you.
