MC4 falls short of Wave Gods, but is a leaps-and-bounds improvement over Excuse My French.

While Montana by no means offers up any profound lyrical executions on MC4, he clearly has fun doing what he’s doing and is finally learning to master the role he’s developed for himself.

What he does on MC4 is play to his strengths. French knows he isn’t a lyrical miracle but recognizes what it takes to make a strong rap song whether he plays point guard or not.

It’s a diverse guest list, and as a consequence, MC4 is too disjointed to feel like a definitive statement.

This album is a complete master piece and shows French Montana at the top of his game. Not only does he out perform Kanye and Nas on 'Figure it Out' but he destroys 'No Mercy'. Not to mention 'Said N Done' where he renegades almost every legendary NY sample. This is the greatest NYC album since Illmatic and it's a shame it was relegated to mixtape status. Full Review »
