Never before have the band felt so complete and realized in causality of their sound than on Modern Mirror.

Hypnotic and immersive, Modern Mirror pulls the listener deep into its lore while keeping it fresh and contemporary. While the record is not necessarily groundbreaking, it doesn’t need to be. It’s everything we want from Drab Majesty.

Drab Majesty have crafted an album that works on its own merits, with songs that you may want to revisit just as much as your favorite vintage post-punk classic track. There's also a nice emotional arc and flow to the album that speaks to the band's theatrical nature as they recontextualize a kohl-eyed '80s goth aesthetic for the next doom generation.

Adding in the duo’s pressing commentary about narcissism and digital romance, both of which bear heavy relevance today, Modern Mirror is goth aestheticism for the now and just maybe—the decade to come.

Modern Mirror isn't without a couple worrying hints that the Drab Majesty aesthetic isn't immune to diminishing returns. ... But even that doesn't stop Modern Mirror from being something Drab Majesty haven't accomplished before, which is an album that has no use for the "skip" button. It is a very good Drab Majesty album. More importantly, it is a very good album, too.

For Drab Majesty to take the next step, with an album that resonates with a larger audience, you feel that more depth is required along with more of the melodic excellence provided a handful of times here. If that happens it could even rival some of the best albums your dusty collection from the 80s boasts, such is the potential here.

Not a single moment feels wasted and the way the tracks flow together makes for a compelling front-to-back listen.

'A Dialogue' acts as a great opener with its slow build-up which leads perfectly into 'The Other Side', a track that will give flashbacks to 'Adore'-era Smashing Pumpkins. 'Noise of the Void', which is the album's slowest track has perfect placement in the album in the dead-centre; acting as a great pallet cleanser before the second half of the albums comes in. 'Out of Sequence' is one of the best closing tracks to an album I've ever heard. Mirroring the opening track, it has a slow build-up only to break out into one of the most energetic and danceable tracks of the last decade.

Drab Majesty perfected their sound on 'Modern Mirror'. Every single track is great and the entire thing comes together perfectly, feeling like a true album and work of art.

____ And it seems to me that it is impossible not to fall in love or appreciate this goth-alien aesthetics, which they so naturally and talented developed both visually and musically.
