In Just Lie Down, grief gives way to wrath and post-hardcore freakery. While Soft Stud and Sam, A Dream have more blissful guitar codas that signify a resolution to her woes. [Nov 2018, p.94]

Mother of My Children is, generously and radically, an attempt to reconcile an identity with a universe.

Paul's songs wisely detail widely relatable experiences. Though she's stated that the tragedies of Standing Rock informed some of these songs, Mother's magic lies in how she details her life without explicitly naming the oppression she experiences on a daily basis.

Mother of My Children is particularly elegant in the way it demonstrates how grief and love share space when something precious is taken from you, how the distinction between those emotions can blur.

Great lead singles, emotionally compelling lyrics as well as sonically pleasing chords. One of my favourites this year.
