Released from both internal and external shackles, Muna feels like phase two for one of pop’s best bands.

From its overall sound down to its finer details, Gavin, Maskin and McPherson have hit the mark completely. It’s amazing to see a band that are so unapologetically queer excel at their craft and create an album that is quite possibly, if not certainly, their masterpiece.

They're offering something new with 'MUNA' - evolving, inspiring, and taking us along for the [horse] ride.

It’s by far the happiest MUNA have sounded; a celebratory expression of queer love that loses none of the trio’s magic.

The album is both consistently breezy and emotionally upfront, going to-and-fro between galvanising dance anthems and gentle, psychedelic country ballads à la Kacey Musgrave’s Golden Hour.

By now, it should be clear that this lot know how to pen a whopper of a pop anthem – that remains apparent here – but more crucially ‘MUNA’ also serves as solid evidence of a band with many more chapters of evolution up their sleeves yet.

While the rest of the record never quite reaches that level of instantaneous pop gratification [as "Silk Chiffon"], Muna still turn in some of their better songs from there while also taking their sound to new places.

Definitely their best album. Pop perfection on its best shape. Synth-pop, electro-pop, country and pop-rock, all combined masterfully. Brilliant.

With this masterpiece, MUNA got back to "about u"'s level. Every single song has a whole world of meaning. It is incredible how good both lyrics and production of every single song reach for the stars. MUNA is one of the bast bands of our generation, and it is a pity that they haven't gotten yet the worldwide recognition they deserve. Can't wait for their next artistic creation! Expand

Silk chiffon was my number 1 song of 2021, and now I have an excuse to put it on my top songs this year too. Persuading Phoebe Bridgers toSilk chiffon was my number 1 song of 2021, and now I have an excuse to put it on my top songs this year too. Persuading Phoebe Bridgers to sing an upbeat song is already an achievement. But also contained within this album is one of the greatest opening lines to any song on "anything but me". There are some absolute hits on this album, like the aforementioned songs and "home by now" and no real misses. I also love drops in pop songs. Brilliant album, deserving of the "self-titled" moniker. Expand
