"Silk Chiffon" featured one of the catchiest choruses of the year, but MUNA's self-titled album tried the same formula over and over again. The album features pop songs that could fit on any Top 40 radio station and presents little to nothing new. It's a solid album, but in my opinion, far from being one of the best of the year.

While the rest of the record never quite reaches that level of instantaneous pop gratification [as "Silk Chiffon"], Muna still turn in some of their better songs from there while also taking their sound to new places.

On MUNA, the group has crafted a collection boldly exploring how being queer is composed of joys and traumas, and there’s no shame in messily embracing both. As they put it on their first album, we are loudspeakers.

On their self-titled third album, MUNA step fully into their role as pop stars and mentors, offering gentle instructions for falling in love, dusting yourself off, and joyfully living your truth.
