Lyrically wise the band is strong, but aside from a one or two standout tracks the album falls victim to sloppy production and a lack of tonal consistency.

Debuting major album by the emerging star band of Imagine Dragons. Featuring many hit songs that have plastered radio stations and billboard charts over the past year, it shows many great songs that are fun and easy to listen to it. Only major criticism is that you get tired of it quickly due to the large similarities between songs, they tend to just blend together. Good album overall

Imagine Dragons are similar to the Foo Fighters, but they use a wider variety of sound effects and suffer from a noticeable lack of lyrics. (There's a lot of oh-ing and ah-ing to fill in the gaps).

I may be the minority here, but I find this album to have only like one or two OKAY songs, but the rest of them, are pretty much otherwise forgettable. Most of them are almost just the same formula, really a mediocre LP.

This album is not awful, it's just incredibly boring. Most of the album sounds like every other christian rock song I've heard. Loud, huge drums, and cliche lyrics like "I'm drowning in the waters of my soul." Plus this album is just sad, wallowing in its own self misery and nihilism. At least that one is about pushing through all of the people who want you to change and defining yourself. Expand

The success of this album is both a gift AND a curse. The popularity of Imagine Dragons is almost monumental and unexpected! But alas the appeal eventually wore off.... And became overplayed and seriously overexposed. You can't watch a movie trailer or even listen to the radio without hearing either Radioactive or Demons! I PRAY that they don't release any new music until 2015 at the latest...

Everything is an "almost". This band is almost pop, almost rock, almost deep, almost interesting, almost good. But at the end, you find that that almost never fulfills; what's more, it lets you thirsty, incomplete.

So. I admit I never did like Imagine Dragons. They just sounded so typical of an overproduced, lyrically lacking, mainstream rock band to me. But some of my friends insisted they were great, and after reading somewhere that Arcade Fire, one of my favorite bands ever, was an influence on their music, I decided to give Night Visions a full listen to see if there was some small stroke ofSo. But some of my friends insisted they were great, and after reading somewhere that Arcade Fire, one of my favorite bands ever, was an influence on their music, I decided to give Night Visions a full listen to see if there was some small stroke of genius that I was missing. My conclusion: 1/2 out of 11 tracks impress (Rocks). 3 out of 11 have anything even slightly meaningful to say (Radioactive, Demons, and Nothing Left To Say/Rocks). 2 of those three I already knew I hated (the ones I already heard on the radio). Not counting their hits, only 1 track was memorable and that might just be because it was the last. I know I probably sound like a snotty hipster, but I honestly find the album boring and quite honestly, too overproduced for the debut of a "rock" band, and it comes off, to me, as nothing more than a mask for underwhelming-ly unoriginal lyrics and boring melodies. Just a bit generic really. Imagine Dragons don't add anything to their genre, and don't have enough exceptional skill to create an album to be a classic of the genre.

Night visions is nothing without its singles, which range from decent to superb. every other track is rather dull and forgettable. the lyrics speak but do not shout, rather a shame (there is a lot of potential)
Overall this is an average album which although has a focused sound channels its qualities on a few songs

Some good songs held this overall okay album together. Imagine dragons has stayed as an 'okay' band for so long. Evolve didn't help their case, either.

"Radioactive" is very well-crafted but "Tiptoe" is just plain annoying. The album itself is a bit inconsistent.

It takes alt-rock drama and boy-band syrup and bolts on some fun.-size arena-singalong choruses. [May 2013, p.103]

Unfortunately Night Visions is so safe and middle of the road that it leaves you with the same hollow feeling that Las Vegas can, without the dizzying high and sensual assault that got you there in the first place.

There are a lot of cosmetics present to cover up the band’s shortcomings, but not even the most epic posturing and glossy production can hide this record’s blemishes.
