Tem umas músicas gostosinhas mas não é coeso. Acho que os pontos altos são In My Blood, a música com o Khalid e Why

"Where were you in the mourning?" is such a good song, but to that song until "Perfectly wrong" and "When you're ready" we have a lot of forgettable songs, not even the collaborations put a little warm.

He promised more than what he delivered, there's a lack of powerful moments in his songs. The use of falsettos is way too repetitive, it's ok in a song or two but not in almost every song. I think he should stick to his chest voice. Expand

As músicas do álbum são boas, o único problema é a falta de autenticidade. O álbum soa como o Illuminate com pegadas de Handwritten.

Sem duvidas que é o melhor album do Shawn, mas ainda assim é um álbum meia boca.

I realized that Shawn's style is a guitar and that's it, which I do not like very much, he always puts me in expectation on his album because all the singles he releases before are good, it happens with all his albums, but when he goes to listen, it's not What is expected and more of the same

Lacks diversity, yet somewhat enjoyable. It doesn't deserve all the hype around it.

The album is really an evolution if you count it since where Shawn has started his career, but it has some lyrics and beats that are not compatible with the proposal of the album, making it shallow.

Compared to Shawn's first two albums, this is not impressive but actually disappointing. There are some standouts, but the majority of his melodies are lacking and not memorable. Too much experimentation in other genres, as well as mimicry, which does not allow for a consistent/solid album. He comes across as lost or like he's searching to find a new sound, which was unnecessary. HisCompared to Shawn's first two albums, this is not impressive but actually disappointing. His soulful pop music with catchy melodies is what made him great and successful; most of these new songs do not contain the depth or soulfulness/passion of his past work, which is truly unfortunate. I'm still a fan of Shawn Mendes as an artist and person, so it's disheartening being forced to give such a low ranking of this album. Expand

I've been a fan of Shawn for a while, and when I saw him live I thought he was great, so I was excited to hear his new music. When he released 'Lost In Japan' and 'In My Blood' as singles I was very impressed because it was exactly what he sold this new era as- new, mature, etc. But then the album came out and I have to admit it was really disappointing. There were some good songs, like 'Why' and 'Particular Taste', but most were either repetitive, unmemorable, or both. It was clear from the promotion that this album was meant to be an un-cut, raw look at Shawn, but it just came off as forced. I definitely prefer and would recommend his second album 'Illuminate', which, I felt, was much more musically diverse and indelible. Expand

Suas músicas soam de forma igual, poeticamente falando. As letras possuem uma mesma linha de raciocínio, ainda que muito bem compostas. Vale lembrar que cada música possui no mínimo dez compositores, com o nome de Shawn escondido entre eles. O forte deste disco é realmente a parte instrumental.

It's another characteristic album by Shawn Mendes. The same sounds, the same letters with the same messages as always. There is nothing innovative in his career and it is more and more of the same. Bored

Are not mature enough and too common and commercial. Shawn has already made some progresses compared to his previous albums. His vocal is somehow uncomfortable He started to try different styles. Some of the tracks are excellent but others still can be improved.
Best: In my Blood, Lost in Japan, Particular Taste
Worst: Youth, Mutual, When You're Ready Look forward to the next album.

For his third project, Shawn's self-titled album seems to lack a lot of the newfound maturity that was promised by the lead-in tracks "In My Blood" and "Lost In Japan."

"Shawn Mendes" surprisingly contains some solid bops, but most of the time the young singer still struggles with the generic sound he has been making since the very start of his career.

Favorite tracks: In My Blood, Nervous, Lost in Japan, Where Were You in the Morning?, Why
Least favorite tracks: Like to Be You, Because I Had You

This album is not bad. But it is so mediocre, bland and nothing new. Nothing makes me feel impressive in this album. This album is all about love and relationship just like all of his other album. It makes me strong and it's very inspiring) "Where Were You In The Morning?" is also a catchy song, which makes me like it. But other than that, it's not a good album. I just hope that Shawn can come up with something new in his later projects. Expand

There's a palpable sweetness to music that endures, even when a production is as bright and glistening as it is on Shawn Mendes. That bodes well for the future that Shawn Mendes is so evidently planning for.

This looming sense of familiarity extends past the album’s musical elements and into its writing. Shawn Mendes is populated with stock characters: the girl who’s a little too high on her own supply, the girl worth waiting forever for, the girl who got away.

Shawn Mendes is a remarkably well-crafted pop album that finds the singer trying on different styles, prominently showcasing his collaborators and making some flagrant references--yet his persona has become strong enough that he’s never overpowered by any of it.
