I love this album so much, it's just a chill, sunny, type of album with nice summer vibes. It's so different from what Lorde has been done with the last two albums. It's not for everyone, but I personally love it, it's very calming

I love Lorde! She's my favorite singer, but I'm disappointed! I always try to be open minded when an artist I like change their sound or voice, but I really love Lorde from "Pure Heroine" her deep voice and the beats... I love Melodrama too, I heard it so much that it would be ruined if it was a fisical CD, so I expected more from this one! :/

I'm completely in love with this album. Lorde did an amazing job, the lyrics are softly and relaxing. I felt like I was on the beach in New Zealand when I listened the album for the first time.

Doesn't top Melodrama but it doesn't feel like it's trying to, it's a perfect summer record. My only complaint is that quite a few of the songs have a similar sound I wish she'd have switched some of them up a bit while still keeping that same mellow tone. Still amazing. Highlights for me are Fallen Fruit, Big Star and Stoned at the Nail Salon.

Solar Power is a collection of subdued songs, which are quite similar to each other with only few elements tearing them apart. Just like Taylor Swift's folk albums, songs from Solar Power can be an okay background music with only few standout tracks. The title tracks shows that Lorde knows how to build-up the song, while "Mood Ring" has nice production choices.

In my opinion, Lorde has received mixed/negative reviews for this album, and this album is her taking her own turn. Songs I recommend from the LP are Mood Ring, Fallen Fruit, and Solar Power (the title track). Most of the album was a pleasant listening experience, but I think that Stoned At The Nail Salon could have more potential, and Oceanic Feeling seemed a little too long for an outro. All in all, an album that comes as a shock to most, and possibly the beginning to some more experimental chill alt-pop.

I love the psychedelic mood that was present all throughout the album, it is also one of the most sonically pleasing album that was ever created. Solar Power Is Singer/Songwriter Lorde’s (Born Ella Marija Lani Yelich O’Connor) Long Awaited Third Studio Album Following Her Massively Well Received “Melodrama” Released In 2017. Ella Is Notorious Of Reinventing Herself And She Didn’t Miss This Time Either! Pure Heroine (Her First Record) Was A Darker, More Teenage Angst Album. Melodrama Had A Futuristic, Modern Day Mood. Solar Power Now Takes on The “Sunlight” and “Heavenly” Feeling. The Path Is The Perfect Opening Track With The Strong Vocals And Soft Yet So Prominent Guitar. The Title Track Is A Nice Introduction To The Album Even-Though It Is More Of A Generic Sound For The Artist. California and Stoned At The Nail Salon Are More Stripped Back And Lyrically/Vocally Stronger. Fallen Fruit Is A Multicoloured And Perfect Balance Of What You’d Want In The Way That It Has A Rightly-Placed Beat-Drop. Secrets From A Girl (Who’s Seen It All) Is A Poppy, Upbeat Tune Enhancing Yelich-O’Connor’s Power To Reach All Aspects Of The Alternative/Pop Genre. The Man With The Axe Is The Perfect Way To Fizzle Out And Is Lyrically Stunning. Dominoes Once Again Is A More Upbeat Song Linking To A Coming-Of-Age Soundtrack. Big Star Is An Extremely Melody About Her Now Passed Dog “Pearl” And Knowing That Makes It 10x Sadder As This Was Written Before He Left Us, Probably The Rawest Song On The Record Leading Into The Interlude Like Track... Leader Of New Regime Is Really Well Tailored To The Aesthetics And Purpose Of The Record. Mood Ring In My Opinion Should’ve Been The Lead Single, Being Versatile To All Audiences Making A Highly Powerful Vocal Arrangement, The Pop 00s Feel Is Perfect Way To Blend Into The End Of The Record. Oceanic Feeling Is A Perfect Lyrically Enchanting Song And Probably The Best At It!
My Only Critiques With This Album Is That Oceanic Feeling Should Have Been A Bit Shorter. Leader Of New Regime Should’ve Been Longer. Mood Ring Should’ve Been The Lead Single! Other Reviewers Are Trying To Compare This Record To Her Previous “Melodrama” With People Allegedly Wanting A “Melodrama 2.0” According To Fans.

An incredibly cohesive sound for this long-awaited third album. It's like waking up sunburnt at 4PM wondering what life really means, but gently, without blaming yourself, with grown awareness of what it means to be young (but not that young anymore) and alive (in a world that's dying). Not an easy one to listen to, but it caresses and blesses you with warm, tired sunlight. Loved it.

Album reflects the internal sighs with bliss and psychedelic ambiance. It seems positive but to understand her lyrics you have to look more deeply further, and when you got it all you'll see actually what she feels. Dont be that subjective and do not expect Lorde to pretend still like a teenager. She is a fully grown woman with loads of thoughts, creativity, the talent.

I felt like I was listening to an endless song, which I could perfectly enjoy if I were trying to relax, but it didn't really cause any effect in me, that feeling I always feel when listening to Lorde. In his newest work, Solar Power, Lorde proves to be one of the most innovative and versatile artists in the contemporary pop music industry. David Bowie didn't lie when he said she would be the "future of music", that's exactly what she shows us with her third album. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

This album lacks all of the drama of Lorde's second album Melodrama. I think that is the point. Like most of her work, it takes a few listens to fully enter the new world of sound Lorde creates for us. Solar Power is unique, vulnerable and unapologetically femme driven. SP does not try to compete with previous work nor pretend to be something grandiose. SP feels more like a peace of mind, a meditative tale that responds to the anxiety and expectation fame has defied her with. Instead of biting, she whimsically sings along to it. Expand

the album is very good, lorde has clearly matured and, even though this may seem a step back from melodrama, the quality is still great. the production is a little repetitive sometimes, but at least you can tell that Lorde and Jack wanted the album to be cohesive, like an immersive experience.

Solar Power hinted at it, Stoned at The Nail Salon nibbled at it, and Mood Ring winked at it.

With each, and EVERY song, Ella confirmed it for me. This album, in all it's nooks and crannies, is a thank you. It's a love letter to every person who raised her, and quite literally, every musician who raised her Mum and Dad.

The vast majority of her loyal fans are not my age. Their sonic emotional journey through life is not that of me, my contemporaries or her Mum and Dad. But, they're going to absolutely ADORE Ella for introducing them to the music that storied her childhood, that shaped her musical sensibilities, that made her feel safe.

Thank you Ella, thank you Mr. O' Connor and thank you Ms. Yellich.

With all due respect and I mean ALL due respect, I'd like to offer a couple of facts that may answer a few of the questions you had of some Professional Critics disparate reviews

This Album is a sublime autobiography, love letter and thank you all rolled into one beautiful document. it is the most comprehensive, cohesive and complex ode to 60 years of musical styles, musical genres and specific artists all while sharing with us, her fans, the music that's bookmarked her life! What a precious gift!!!

Literally every song is delivered flawlessly; Often in multiple iconic vocal and musical styles that are both a tribute to specific artists, (sometimes just stylistically), but in almost every song, a tribute to a specific album, song AND lyric or refrain all at once. It's genius! To produce an album that's going to remind older folk like me of times long forgotten whilst telling her own story. That concurrently shares the musical influences of her life's journey to date with her contemporaries who may never ever have heard the music from the '60's and '70's that went onto influence the Pop stars of the future - is GENIUS!!! To be blunt, in my humble opinion - this is the most complicated, complex and comprehensive compendium of 60 years of "Pop" music ever produced in a single Album.

This album will keep giving to every listener for decades to come because it's handed her fans THE KEY to a life times journey in music.

After listen to 12 tracks from this album i can understand what Lorde wants us to feel. The warm of the sunset in summertime but slightly cold from the sadness of the rains we usually see in June and it’s just fascinating! She gives us so many moods in this whole album and you can also see her maturity in her lyrics “Spend all the evenings you can with the people who raised you
'Cause all the times they will change, it'll all come around” this is from “Stoned At The Nail Salon” this album just fits the situation I’m dealing with right now in the middle of the pandemic all we need is to be safe and happy ! Spending all the good time with our favorite people as much as possible cause we don’t know when the time comes we might lose them “Cause i don’t know , maybe i’m just stoned at the nail salon… again?” Her experience with heartbreaks and how she heals in “The Man With The Axe” “I guess I'll always be this way
Swallowed up by the words and halfway to space
But there by the fire, you offered your hand
And as I took it, I loved you, the boy with the plan”

Old sad habits from the first part gives me blues and fire when he offered his hand to her gives me yellow again she loves him “the boy with the plan” gives me green the perfect mixture between blue and yellow we got green it’s time to turn on the “Green Light” again forgiveness, compassion, understanding that’s the meaning of the color green in this song . A few last words
I don’t really care what other critics think about this album but it’s very special to me . This album needs to win The Grammys cause of the wholesomeness that we received from Lorde who gives us so many stories from her own experience throughout this album “Solar Power” . Love u Lorde

Plus, according to the way Lorde described this new album, I was expecting lyrics more impressive, more powerful. I was expecting to feel something, but I barely did.
Next, the productions. This is high quality fore sure, but kind of repetitive. That guitar, I understand Lorde wanted a sound more chill, more soft, more simple on this album but all the songs sound the same. I can't find the originality and uniqueness of her previous albums. I wish there was at least one song more rythmic, more dancing, in the middle of the album just to " wake up " the listener. Indeed, Solar Power tends to fall into a soporific effect at some point.
At the end, the main issue is that it's quite difficult to pick a standout track, a " coup de coeur " from Solar Power, because there is not. The songs are mainly unremarkable. The Path, Fallen Fruit and Mood Ring are the only songs that stands out a bit. I'm not going to say the album is boring because it would be rude, but it's definitely too " slow " for me. It's a relaxing album but that's it.
I'm quite disappointed that Lorde released Solar Power at the end of August, when vacations come to an end and the beach and the sun are far away behind us. It's a summer album, I'm not seeing myself listening to Solar Power in October for example. It would have been better to release it in late June.
I'm proud of Lorde for testing a new musical style and reinventing herself ! But it is just not for me. I mean, it would have be great as an EP, but as an whole album after 4 years of waiting, it's a bit weak.

All these connections Lorde is trying to make: her strange pastiche imagination of the ’70s, that random spoken word interlude by Robyn about climate change, and the themes of “sun healing,” never fully reach each other. Often, they come off as disingenuous and out of touch more than they read as brilliant, or comical. Whether the album is one big prank, or just one majorly failed experiment, the gist of having the “privilege to ignore” is lost in translation. All you are left with is just a handful of pretty alright songs.
