The visceral imagery and headlines that ushered in Suicide Songs ends up serving to hold it back a little; an album that’s excellent at times, but which arrived with preconceptions so strong that could never be matched.

On this, their second album, MONEY have created a difficult listen on two levels. Firstly, in creating a collection of songs which, if not directly about suicide, often convey a hopeless state of mind and heart. Secondly, owing to the awkward collision of some fine playing with a largely monotonous production and some painfully strained singing from vocalist/guitarist Jamie Lee.

Oasis - I mean, MONEY - channels 90's britpop legends in making a grandiose, operatic record of their own, and they do so to great success.Oasis - I mean, MONEY - channels 90's britpop legends in making a grandiose, operatic record of their own, and they do so to great success. While Suicide Song's quality may drop slightly on the back half of the record, there are enough great ideas here to keep it engaging throughout. A very solid release and one of the best albums of January, 2016.
