This is a collection of elegantly assembled, fat-free pop songs, made from light and air and heart, and great choruses.

While these few songs ["Losing a Friend" and "That Girl, That Scene"] threaten to derail the album, the rest of the set is more unified, offering an understated but brilliant celebration of both Frankie & the Heartstrings' unique songwriting and their catalog of classic pop influences.

This fanzine-ish dedication to the music they love spills over into the record, making it ooze with warmth and wit--and it’s catchy as hell.

There's undoubtedly something there with Frankie--those effortless, skippy choruses aren't as easy to do as they seem. But he and his Heartstrings haven't quite found their true north yet.

Surrounding themselves with wise old heads clearly helps, but The Days Run Away shows Frankie & Co have plenty ideas of their own. [Jul 2013, p.103]

Francis's insistent yelp is certainly the main event here. Without him, the 11 quickfire tracks would have decidedly less personality, though even then there are moments so featureless that you could be listening to any bunch of second-tier janglers.

The Days Run Away is a simple, pleasant, good-at-what-it-does indie pop album, but nothing spectacular.
