Laugh if you like, but [Black is] as convincing as any of today's straight-faced metal revivalists. [17 Nov 2006, p.127]
  2. It plays like a hilarious concept album more than anything.

Tenacious D insists it is the greatest band in the world, and on a couple occasions during this soundtrack to the duo's upcoming film of the same name, you kinda believe it. [18 Nov 2006]
  4. "The Pick Of Destiny" is likely to be among the finest cock rock albums about magical plectrums released this year.
  5. This may not be a concept album, but it's structured as a narrative, mirroring the plot of the movie. Unfortunately, this doesn't give The Pick of Destiny the weight or grandeur of a true concept album, because a lot of the music sounds as if it serves the movie, and doesn't stand tall when separated from the film.

And who gives a crap how long the playing time is as long as all the tracks are as strong as this material is. Jack Black's vocal skills put to shame 95% of the singers that currently populate the airwaves today. Full Review »
