I hadn't even heard of this album coming out until about two days before it came out, and I was pretty excited. I shouldn't have been. This album, except for the title track, is badly mixed, bad, bad, bad, also it's horrible. It's just an absolute disgrace to the Bon Jovi name. It drags on for way too long, and has even cheesier lyrics than all Bon Jovi albums put together. I'm feeling a big, fat, juicy 0 on this one. Expand

This album really shows how much Richie's songwriting is missed. These songs have no depth, no soul...this is what Sambora brought to the band. It truly is a shame....I am desperately trying to find some connection to these songs but, I just cannot. It pains me to write these words, as I am a dedicated Bon Jovi fan of 30+ years. Some of the songs are catchy, but that doesn't make up for the extreme lack of substance on this album. The lyrics are far less than inspired, and the instrumental work follows suit. The title track is a very infectious tune that I've caught myself listening to on more than one occasion, but even that song only goes skin-deep. You won't find anything memorable here. Expand

The arena-filling sound that runs through modern music owes something to Bon Jovi, but This House… comes across more like their third-tier spiritual successors, comprised of forgettable dance-rock and schmaltzy slow-burners loaded with endless platitudes and those echoey, staccato guitar lines that bands do when they want to sound big.

Bon Jovi’s first album since guitarist Richie Sambora’s departure doesn’t tear up the old formula.

Bon Jovi and Shanks may not have done much to freshen up the band's sound--they don't take any mid-2010s musical trends into consideration--but that simmering defiance does mean this is the band's liveliest album in years.
