Jan 17, 2020Great follow up to good kid maad city. Really shows off Kendrick's talents as a lyricist if not poet.
-
Jan 17, 2020glad to live in this era and hear this, every song means something, a nice pick from lamar on beats.
-
Dec 26, 2019Best rap record of the decade. The only album to compete is Kanye's MBDTF and this record edges out ahead.
-
Dec 22, 2019Hands down, album of the decade. 5000 words isn't even enough to explain how much I love this album. From the structure of the album to the world class song writing and from the jazz and soul influences to the versatility of Kendrick Lamar voice really brings the entire album to life.

Sep 28, 2019The album that made me interested in music. Before this i didn't care much for music albums, but TPAB has changed that and is still one of the best rap albums I ever heard.
-
Sep 25, 2019Amazing album but not as good as good kid m.a.a.d city but in my opinion, they're both tens.
-
Sep 10, 2019Muito provavelmente o melhor álbum de rap da década. Álbuns como esse serão usados como referência na história do rap.
-
Sep 9, 2019I have no negative thing to say about this album. This is one of the greatest rap album of all time, even Kendrick's best album so far! This is an instant classic and a masterpiece! Nothing to say more. sorry.
-
Sep 3, 2019Powerful movement into a classical legendary position for Kendrick musically and poetically, while shifting the tides and bending the bars of what storytelling rap was, and what it will forever be.
-
Aug 25, 2019A classic album which will undoubtedly stand the test of time as a masterpiece. A great listen to anyone with ears, even those who do not like hip hop or rap will enjoy. I recommend listening in a space where you can truly listen to and admire the lyrics and the story the album is telling.
-
Aug 25, 2019Just an incredible masterpiece. There are no words to describe how this, 4 years on, is still one of, if not the best rap album of the 21st century. Perfect from top to bottom, Kendrick just manslaughters everyone and everything in this. A classic.
-
Aug 25, 2019This is the one of the best rap albums of all time without a doubt. The fact the new Taylor Swift album is higher is honestly embarrassing
-
Aug 24, 2019Greatest hiphop album of all time, by far
Amazing album, just a clear 10/10 -
Aug 16, 2019Tbh I personally think that this album is overrated but it still loves up to it.
Very well put together its really worth the hype tbh -
Aug 6, 2019Best Kendrick album
Best album of the decade. Kendrick proves that he is the voice of this generation and tries to be a role model. -
Jul 28, 2019The concept is the most ambitious and creative arguably in music history. The production is eclectic and pushes boundaries in the genre. The lyrics as always are brilliant. This is all around superb. It might lack the replay value of other great albums, given it's density and strict concept, but it's still an artifact of 2010s hip hop from one of the greatest to ever do it.
-

-
Jul 13, 2019i mean come on it's to pimp a butterfly, it's one of the most acclaimed albums ever made, let alone in the 2010s

Jun 29, 2019Masterpiece!!! That’s all I got to say. I still play this album front to back at least 6 or 7 times a year.
-
Jun 21, 2019An absolute masterpiece that will act as a time capsule for generations to come of the first 2 decades of this century.
-
May 31, 2019Just about as close to perfect as you can get. Its incredible that Kendrick was able to one up himself after dropping a project like GKMC.
-
May 28, 2019Most unique album ever known to mankind. All of kendrick's voices are present: enraged, sympathetic, high pitched, rough-edged, panic-driven, authority voice and many more. He manages to outline all the problems within the society. It deserves to be the most acclaimed hip hop album of this decade.
-
Apr 2, 2019This album is great for various reasons. It has many memorable tracks such as Alright, King Kunta, and These Walls. Kendrick improves on his craft and really takes it to another level!
-
Mar 7, 2019Absolutely necessary. Kendrick has made one of the most essential and brilliant albums in years. The lyricism and commentary is completely air tight, and the music itself defies categorization. I'm sure that some people on metacritic don't like this album, but keep in mind these same people gave MMLP2 10s.

Feb 15, 2019TPAB is a Masterpiece. All the songs are fantastic, the Beats are beautiful, and the Production on the album are on fire. TPAB is one of the best of Kendrick Lamar's Career, one of the best albums of 2015, one of the greatest albums of all time, and one of the best that Top Dawg Entertainment has to offer. I highly recommended.

Jul 23, 2018An album that’ll most likely stand the test of time as one of the most significant rap albums of all time. I has amazing production, powerful lyrics, and shows the struggles of the African-American community in an era where there’s political uncertainty.
-

Dec 21, 2017Definitely the greatest hip hop album of the 21st century, one of the greatest and most important albums in the past 20 years. Truly a modern classic that will be studied and admired for generations to come.
-
Dec 20, 2017I would've thought he could never top this album, but I was wrong. I still give this a 10 because it deserves it without question. It is a lyrical masterpiece from the Bob Dylan of hip-hop and the modern, urban era. I do think DAMN is even better, but this is still a perfect 10.

-
Nov 24, 2017A modern masterpiece. In my opinion, the height of Kendrick Lamars' remarkable career. TPaB's content is so refreshingly different to that of today's mainstream hip hop, Kendrick addressees political topics, societal ones and confronts his own feelings, both positive and negative. The best album since the turn of the century.

Jun 21, 2017Has anyone ever done something like this? This is pure art, pure poetry, Lamar at his best. The lyrics, the sounds, the beats, everything is just so perfect. And that finale, maaaan. One of the best albums ever, period!

-
Jun 9, 2017This album raised the hip-hop bar to the sky and above. No one in the game right now can touch Kendrick Lamar. Taylor Swift winning album of the year is the single largest mistake in Grammy history.
-
Jun 4, 2017The greatest hip hop album of all time. Production is funky, jazzy, tear-jerking, banging and philosophical all at once. Lyrics are poetic, deep, and playful. So much meaning behind it, and it is conveyed in a beautiful way. I'd say it's the only hip hop album to be in the top 20 albums of all time.
-
May 23, 2017To Pimp a Butterfly by Kendrick Lamar makes me proud to be black... and I'm white. Absolute art in every way.
Best songs: How Much a Dollar Cost / u / Alright -
May 14, 2017This is a great album. I was enjoying myself through every song and interlude. This album had a great concept, and I can't wait to see what's next for Kendrick.
Favorite tracks: Wesley's Theory, King Kunta, Institutionalized, Momma, Hood Politics, How Much a Dollar Cost, The Blacker the Berry
Least favorite track: Mortal Man
Rating: 10/10 -
May 11, 2017This album was so rich and so soundfull, i love how Kendrick mixed between smooth jazz and rap and i loved the lyrics they were so deep, i think thats the best album of 2015 or i can the best album of the decade so far.
-
May 8, 2017Kendrick Lamar is at the peak of his craft with this album. The beautiful mix of jazz and hip-hop along with the story and issues he attempts to and successfully tackles in this introspective, social commentating masterpiece solidify his place as one the genre's all-time greats.
-
Apr 27, 2017The best album of 2015, and probably the decade. So rich in sounds, so deep in lyrics, so well enginereed that even though I didn't think that Kendrick could not ever top Good Kid, M.A.A.D City, he certainly did it with TPAB.
-

Apr 19, 2017There's nothing I can say about this legendary album that hasn't already been said before. This is a beautiful project that promotes self love and unity amongst the black community. Definitely a classic, and solidifies Kendrick as one of the best to ever do it.
-
Apr 17, 2017One of Kendrick's best albums, no doubt. A mixture of Jazz and Blues beats over hard hitting, passionate rap and powerful messages about race and equality that can move even the most racially indifferent person.

-
Apr 7, 2017This was an amazing Album, Kendrick yet again makes music for an album like he's writing a book. would recommend it to anyone who likes hip-hop that paints a picture and tells an engaging and interesting story of trials and tribulations and personal suffering.
-
Mar 27, 2017Just perfection. You can't do anything but love the beats, the delivery, and the story behind every single song. When I first listened to this album, I didn't like it. It was too weird, but the more I opened my ears to how meticulous every words is how unique the beats are, it's seriously hard to say "what could have done more?"
-
Mar 24, 2017Too many times is Kendrick given a pass for boring music because of the message he presents. While the message and lyricism on this project are notable, the music itself is quite lacking.
Awards & Rankings
-
The WireMay 15, 2015Lamar offers a commitment to effect change through the work itself. Whether or not that's realistic ideal the delivery is so powerful it's hard not to get caught up in the rapture. [May 2015, p.50]
-
The SourceMay 6, 2015Each song means more with reference to the project's overall concept than it does as a standalone record, which shouldn't take away from its impact, but rather speak of the courage of its creator. [Apr-May 2015, p.87]
-
Q MagazineApr 29, 2015It's a challenging, ambitious combination of words and music that becomes increasingly absorbing over time. [Jun 2015, p.103]
