Nevertheless, he's got the same problem of her friend Lady Gaga: YOU CAN'T MAKE EDM TEARJERKER (unless you are Nervo). Expand

Okay. It's alright. But it's just not that good.

Best tracks: "Addicted To A Memory" "Beautiful Now" "Transmission"

I'm sad to realize the best songs on 'True Colors' were where Zedd was being helped by other artists. The track 'Papercuts' especially is very interesting as Troye Sivan and him collaborate in a surprising way. He certainly did choose gorgeous voices in order to craft this album where pop and EDM fuse. It isn't that creative nor ground-breaking to my opinion but manages to get pleasant with many listens, which is highly paradoxal because the tracks themselves are highly repetitive. The structures of songs are mind-numbing and overwhelming as hell. I guess I managed to enjoy it by overexposing myself to it. Expand

Odd that "Beautiful Now" goes from horny ("I see what you're wearing/There's nothing beneath it") to Maroon 5-esque (the cloying "ba, ba, ba-ba, bah!" chorus), but otherwise the slick and skillful True Colors is built for fans of Zedd's music rather than his social media followers.

On True Colors, each track tries to be a separate statement as Zedd tries to crash through his own, pre-existing glass ceiling--but the whole falls short of the sum of its parts.

Though he cycles through a major-label budget's worth of sounds and vocalists (including Selena Gomez and earnest rapper Logic), Zedd's colors are often hard to tell apart.
